We all play different games in the same Ooniverse.
One of mine I call Mayhem.
Fully loaded Caddy with rear turretts and 8 missile bays.
Find and attack a main military base. One targetted missile will do.
I've never survived the encounter, but the fun of trying.
I measure it in mins before 'Press Space'
Best so far 14'28"

I just changed roles... From trading to SAR. Sold my Ophidian, gave up cargo deals and mainly doing rescue missions for the RRS group or picking up blackboxes and escape pods I locate with the escape pod locator and cargo spotter.
Gives me a strange feeling of making the OOniverse a better place in times of these.

I only have one commander running, and I'm not considering to change my ship in the near future. Escorting freighters is my current business, because I'm working on the OXP, but I'm using the same ship that I can use for dangerous parcel and passenger runs or to fight Thargoids. So I can play "different games" if I want.
SAR sounds interesting, because I'm trying to be a good guy in Oolite (and of course in the real world too
).

Possibly a stupid question - where do I get rear turrets? Is there an OXP for it or is it something you can only do with a few ships?

I presume they're available/hackable on the
Caduceus, which I believe is the ship that Alex uses.

Well.. What on earth or Oonivese is SAR or RRS?>? for that matter?
The rear turrets are a mod I made with the help of some other commanders on here that were patient enough to answer me.
Mainly because I'm really useless at shooting with rear laser. Even been known to hit planets while busy looking back!!
Ok this is what I done;
Bye the way I use Notepad++ to edit. free download. I've heard Microstuff causes problems.

I wonder what would happen if you stuck them on another ship? These numbers are for a Caddy, What if you adjusted them for a Cobby?

<hums silently>Rolling home, rolling home, rolling home, across the sea, rolling home to good old hamburg, rolling home dear land to see..
SAR is short for Search and Rescue. I live close to the sea on the shore of the northwestern peninsula of Germany (the rest of the country calls us northern lights or fish heads, take your pick) and ships in distress is always part of our life, and nowadays in almost every bigger port there's a SAR station by a special nongovernmental organisation with ships on constant alert in case a trading vessel, private sailor or islanders need help.
Rescue Station OXP's
RRS Group is comparable to our real life
DGzRS for me, so it's an honour for me to fly for them.
The
Escape Pod Locator is quite handy to lock on an emergency beacon of rescue capsules with the ASC.
And to find the needle in the haystack when you have arrived, e.g. in an Asteroid field looking for a blackbox or an escpae pod in outer space, I'm using
Cargo Spotter to find them visually in order to scoop them up.
About the turrets: If you reference "caduceusturret" you have to have either the caddie oxp installed or have to setup a subentity entry in shipdata with exactly this name.
In stock Oolite however is a generic "ballturret" subentity which anyone can use. Either way you have to adapt the position and orientation of the new turrets for every other ship, so they are placed on the Hull and not in the Hull or floating in space around your ship.
