New lasers and ship mass

Post by Alex »

Ello,
Was just reading over the new cannon laser stuff and was thinking about it.
First, I can't seem to find any data on the mass/weight of my Cadeceus Omega?
And will it run on V1.80?
And will 'New Lasers' work on V1.80?
Reading the relavent posts didn't make it clear to me?

I tend not to update my version while still fully enjoying the version I'm playing.
1.80 had been released maybe a year or so before I updated from 1.76.
Funnily I don't always see the changes as improvements.
It's one of Oolites greatest advantages, you can taylor the game play to your own wants to Nth degree. And tends to take me quite a while to get any particular release to the "Just So" condition.
I find doing that a large part of the fun factor.

New Lasers won't work in 1.80, sorry to say. The lasers up until 1.82 were hard-coded into the core game and not subject to change. With 1.82 they opened up the mechanics of the lasers to allow custom ones, which is how New Lasers works.
Reports of my death have been greatly underestimated.

If you're happy playing 1.80, you may even want to wait until 1.84 is released, before upgrading. Besides its' own new features, it addresses a few things that are 'not-quite-right' in 1.82.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

You can check it in the [wiki]Gallery[/wiki] interface. In js it is the player.ship.mass property.

Without mass check you can travel to a system with at least techlevel 12 like Zaonce where you can see all laser cannons in the equipment list which fit into your ship and can not see which is too heavy.

The expansion manager will refuse to install the laser cannons package below Oolite 1.82.

Kinda makes it a moot point then.
I don't tend to use the expansion manager and downloaded the oxz direct from wiki. haven't tried to load it yet, but then probably get incomp message.
Not to worry still love the game anyway and don't really need cannons
