Wow! I like it - would be great as official Supercobra HUD!

What about KleptoHUD-like crosshairs? They ease aiming to distant targets much.
BTW the picure shows Cobra-like ship, which one is capable of carrying 5 missiles?

Thanks for the comments! :)

Now, a question: How do I assign this HUD only to a specific ship? Like SuperCobra or Cobra MkIII?

The 5 missiles are carried by Cobra Courier - a beefed-up Cobra3, but not as beefed up as SuperCobra.

That reminds me… one code-side change I’d like to see is a transparent black background for the scanner, so you can still see things on it against bright backgrounds.

Ok, I finished the HUD and it is now uploaded on the Oosat2. It is accompanied by Cobra Courier, but feel free to take out the HUD and use it for other Cobras! ;)

BTW: Here's a variant of the .png for you, Ahruman. With a slightly darkened background for the scanner.

There's a bug in the Cobra Courier OXP
It has an "images" subdirectory, it should be "Images", with capital I.
If i don't rename it i don't see the bg image (linux here).
see:

Code: Select all

> unzip cobra_courier.oxp_b.zip
Archive: cobra_courier.oxp_b.zip
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Config/cobra3-hud.plist
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Config/demoships.plist
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Config/shipdata.plist
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Config/shipyard.plist
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/courier.png
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/hud.png
 extracting: cobra_courier.oxp/images/aegis.png
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/images/cobracourierhud.png
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Models/cobracourier.dat
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Models/cobracourier2.dat
  inflating: cobra_courier.oxp/Textures/Cobracourier.png
BTW your hud is very nice, congrats.

Ah, didn't see the error since I'm using WinXP... Shame on me... I should have thought of the other platforms a bit more carefully...

Anyway, I've made a similar HUD for Drake Mk II (in the new package) and a slightly tweaked and improved one is coming up for Asps pretty soon (as soon as I get time to playtest them...).

very very nice HUD. absolutely lovely! i never use the standard one - always kleptoHUD - because i find the standard one to be somewhat bulky and clumsy.

I love crosshairs from kleptoHUD, wish this one have similar..

The reason this one doesn't have the crosshairs is that I don't like to make the aiming too easy...

But, if someone wants them in, it should be relatively easy to include something like that. Actually, if the KleptoHUD crosshairs is a simple replacement graphic for the basic crosshairs, there should be no conflicts whatsoever, since my OXP doesn't touch the crosshairs at all...

i can't remember off the top of my head how kleptoHUD works - i took the bloody thing to pieces once to try to get it to work, but discovered that it was Lave.oxp that was the problem - and he seems to have disappeared from the BB. i don't remember it being very complicated... in fact i don't think it was a replacement graphic for hte crosshairs, just an extra graphic (for the circle) slotted in.
