Alite is here

Post by Stardust »

Hi everyone,

Elite for Android (Alite) is released: https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... ames.alite

For more information, please visit the web-site: http://alite.mobi

I hope it will work on all your Android devices --- if not, please do let me know :).
(Note that if you wish to register at the forum of the alite.mobi site, a moderator has to confirm your registration, first --- since I'm the only moderator for now and needing to sleep, now, registration might take some time :) -- sorry about that!)

I hope you like it!
As planned, I am going to release Alite's source code at the end of this year, so that you have a chance to enhance and improve it yourselves.

Have fun!
Philipp

@Day @another_commander Thanks!! Yeah, it feels great... Somehow, I cannot wipe the smile off my face. I really hope you like it (and I didn't include too many bugs).

For the non android players can you post some nice in game vids? I like the market with the icons. I still wish that for Oolite Haha maybe you can OXP it. :).. (BTW your intro movie is great).

Thanks, pagroove! Glad you liked the intro...

I'll see what I can do about the gameplay videos: Screen recording has always been a bit -- challenging -- with Android devices. Since Android 4.4, it became easier, though. I'm not yet sure if I can record sound, too, but I found an app that looks promising. I'll try that tonight.

OXP: Well, my Objective C is really lousy :) -- but if anyone here is interested in using any of the Alite assets, just drop me a PM, you can gladly use them (frankly: I'm using your assets :)).

Looking nice, grats! Thank you for your endurance doing this long work.

After a test I can tell that the whole game well playable and good-looking. My sons like it very much also, just a yaw control would be easier in combat for beginners imho.

OXPs: if you add the same JavaScript parser and implement Oolite classes then even existing OXPs can be usable within Alite also.

Hmmm... I never knew oxps were developed in JS. That opens a lot of possibilities :)... Let's see how many bug reports come in, and I'll concentrate on those, but OXP support is on my list of things to do.

Yaw control: Thought about it, too. It's not hard to implement either... I'm going to publish a list of things I'd like to implement... the list is quite extensive...

Great to hear that your kids like it!! That just made me very happy :)

Just a quick query: is this Elite for Android or Oolite for Android?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I thought about this, too, but since OXP support is currently missing, I'd say it's Elite for Android --- for now ;)

Then again: Alite uses Oolite models and textures...

Thing is, if I link this elsewhere, it'll be in Oolite threads - so shall I refer to it as Oolite for Android?

I reckon Oolite for Android would be best.

I'm ok with Oolite for Android of course, but for now it's important to note that Alite is more static than Oolite as it cannot be easily expanded --- for now.

Okay, Elite for Android it is (as it's already been posted/linked).

I've created a page for Alite on the Fanlore wiki - it's a stub at present, would it be OK to use pictures from the Alite web site? Also, am I right to think that the current version doesn't have any player ships apart from the Cobra?

http://fanlore.org/wiki/Alite

This really needs to be fleshed out a bit more by someone who has played the game and can preferably compare it to Elite and Oolite.
