Oolite Bulletins

I didn't think it terribly important, so I didn't ask, but having done a search of the board and wiki and can't find out what the colors represent. (An oxp that changes laser colors comes up in the search results, but I don't know if that color scheme is what has been added to core.) My military lasers are (now) purple like the cops, but I've faced no purple-lasered opponents, just red and gold. Are non-Galcop, non-Thargoid NPCs just not mounting military lasers? Pulse and beam: which is which?

(If I somehow missed the obvious in my search, let me know. I suppose I'm due for a palm smack to the forehead. )

Red is pulse, yellow is beam.

In the core game, no - the only regularly seen ship which has a military laser is the Viper Interceptor. (The normal Viper has a beam laser, but with a special colour - as in previous versions, ships can declare laser colours which overrule the ones for their laser type)
