If you don't like OXP/OXZ recommendations, look away now.

Still with me? Then please complete the crudely-crafted survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LJM8QL3 .
WARNING: it records your IP address along with your answers. I can't do anything about that.

Survey closes 19 June 2015. I will report back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Owing to a collective failure of the community to respond in appreciable numbers, I'm closing the survey. It got 7 responses, huh.

A detailed analysis would be largely meaningless, so here's a subjective summary:
  • Activities: Explorer's Club was popular, followed by Ring Racer.
  • Ambience: BGS, Comms Pack A and Randomshipnames where popular.
  • HUDs: Coluber HUD CH01 and MFD - Navigation edged ahead.
  • Mechanics: Escort Formations was top.
  • Missions: Random Hits the clear winner, and indeed the overall most popular OXZ.
  • Retextures: Griff Station Bundle came top.
  • Systems: Anarchies and Commies.
  • (everything else): too much a mixed bag to draw any conclusions
If you took the time to participate, thank you.

3 responses so far -- thank you!

Moderator, could you move this topic to the discussion forum? It might get more hits.

I don't, so I did!
However, just out of interest could you give some idea what the survey is actually about?

All 300+ OXZs are listed; the survey asks you to "tick" which OXZs (as many as you care to) you would recommend.

I looked at the trap, Ray.

Also, I'd like to point out (and perhaps it makes no difference since I don't know exactly what you're trying to figure out) that many of my favorite OXP's are /not/ available through the manager and are not on the list. Since your initial question specifies, 'through the download manager', I didn't write them in. If you want a list of those recommendations as well, note me and I'll send them.

Thanks for taking part, Egon, I mean Layne. I'm not trying to figure anything out except to get you all together in a virtual room and ask "what in-game add-ons do you like?". Such conversation seems to be frowned upon on the board -- Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! -- so I took it away to the anonymous medium of SurveyMonkey.

Cheers,
"Ray".

PS: a grand total of 7 responses so far -- woo hoo! Keep 'em coming ...

Such conversations are not frowned upon - it's pre-formed recommended lists that some of us dislike.

Indeed, I'd go further. People are always going to have their personal favourites and will be pleased to share them with others, which is OK as such. Where a lot of us have a really big problem is with lists specifically aimed at new players which nearly always seem to include hugely in-appropriate (for a newbie) OXPs.

I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft! Just a simple survey ...

(That's it for Ghostbusters-themed responses, at least until someone shuts off the power grid.)

Well, since you did bring it up...

Human sacrifice! Dogs and cats, living together! Mass hysteria!

Fixed that for ya.
