Actually i found t9g while searching info on different topic:

there was a string "welcome to the 9th galaxy" in several Eilte version's code.
wiki says:

Elite+ for IBM PC had a ninth galaxy and a new title, "Archangel", for the player to earn. Archangel is reached by undertaking a special mission to destroy a space station in a system invaded by the Thargoids. The player's reward for completing the mission is to receive the title Archangel and obtain a device that is capable of emulating anti-ECM broadcasts. The ninth galaxy can only be reached by hyperspacing into Witch Space.

Can anybody confirm that? What can be found there?

heh - maybe the 9th galaxy is a codename - like the 19th hole in golf...

Actually, I'm nicking that idea for a story.

I'm off to make some notes.

I can confirm that the Amiga Elite had both a Cloaking Device AND an ECM Jammer which i've both used.

I had a "trainer" version of Elite and the ship already came with the Jammer but I really can't tell you if that's from the 9th galaxy o not.

You got the cloaking device after defeating the ship equipped with one (Tiger?) and collecting it via the fuel scoops and the ECM Jammer after another mission which escapes me right now. That was the original, untrainered Amiga version.

The cloaking device was also in the Speccy version, and was collected by defeating the Constrictor and scooping the cargo pod.

It could also be added by using the POKE cheat for the spectrum version.

I think your memory may be failing you - in the Speccy version, it was an Asp that released the cargopod containing the cloaking device. The Constrictor didn't exist at all on the Spectrum.

Err...poo...now I'm not sure.

IIRC, the 48K speccy version was an asp, but the 128K version (the one I had) was the Constrictor. I'm 90% positive I remember a wireframe constrictor fading in and out.

Dammit. Now I remember an Asp too!!!

You're going to need your brain serviced if you're not careful!!

48k version (the one I had) was definitely the Asp.
