Oolite Bulletins

My 9yr old daughter was watching me play Oolite and says to me, "This is like the best space game ever!" I had to agree, and thought you'd like to know.

It would be interesting to hear her try to pronounce her fathers board name. Hope she just uses Daddy.

Well, the Smivslets aren't quite so impressed - "What are you doing Daddy? Oh no! Not Oolite again!"
Having said that Big Smivslet (who is seven) is quite fascinated by the way I can 'draw a picture' and then make it appear as a spaceship and fly it around. Leanings towards the Darkside, maybe? Thinking about it, she is very fond of cookies...

My son (7) watched me for about an hour, the first time he saw me playing. The days thereafter, he continuously drew spaceships, models of HUDs on every paper he could find. Inventing some nice features too.
My little Daugher is ignoring my PC activities.

phkb is an acronym for "play hard, kick butt", so not really pronounceable. She normally just uses "daddy".

I've been puzzling over it ever since I read your wiki page 5 years ago. I just came across this thread, so...

Fair enough.

At a church I attended ... quite some time ago I now realise ... I was part of the music team. I was on keyboard (synth), we had a pianist and a drummer. Nice little three piece. Anyway, being church, you quite often had to play songs that were, shall we say, past their prime. But some in the congregation still loved those old tunes, and so we did our best to make them singable and musically interesting. Anyway, after one service, where we'd struggled through, made our share of mistakes, but made it to the end, the pianist turns to the drummer and I and announces, "Played hard, kicked butt". Which in the context of church was an outrageous and (at the time) extremely funny comment. That then became our tagline after each service, or anything we did together, eventually shortening it to the acronym to avoid any accidental misunderstandings.

So that's it, really. Possibly not as long as I had hinted at. And probably not that funny either. You had to be there, is all I can say.

I was there. Maybe not in person, maybe not the same church, maybe not the same music team... but I think I get it. (It's almost like throwing metal horns -- but you might get exorcised if you do that in church.) Nice story. ...a tale of camaraderie. I can appreciate that. Thanks. PHKB, always!
