Citadels of Chaos

What are the Citadels of Chaos?? I discovered them in G2 yesterday. The first visit to a system in that area yielded around 30 kills, quite a lot, but the next one was in fact particularly boring. Nothing special in respect to trades or prices or delivery contracts. Is there any story behind this or is this just a bunch of anarchy systems each one like every other anarchy system?

Merely a named area on the vector maps - though I believe they are mentioned in a couple of Oofics.

In Oolite I tend to find the anarchies rather quiet and safe. Yes you might find some baddies with a military laser, but with decent shields and witchdrive injectors you can survive quite easily.
For epic space battles, rich industrial democracies/corporate states seem to be a far better bet. You tend to get far larger pirate fleets, which spells faster doom thanks to the number of lasers that can end up trained on you.
Being used to the difficulty hierarchy in the BBC version, I find this a bit odd. I suspect the economy type tends to outweigh the government type in the generation of bad guys in the system.

That can depend on the proximity of an anarchy system to a supposedly civilised system - close by means good for raiding.

Specifically, described
here. I remember last time I took
Atomic Annie across there I had to hire escorts - getting through that region solo in the piƱata of the spaceways was getting close to suicide when v1.80 came out...

I know
"Carver's Anarchy" by Ganelon (from the "
Alien Items" anthology) is set in the Citadels world of Lasoce.

Hm. Another few visits later: It's not too dangerous out there. Nothing special
Unless of course you take a 6.8 LY jump to get there, use your remaining fuel to approach a Spacebar on injectors and once you get there happyly accept an offer to join a fight agains attacking pirate hordes - whith no injector fuel left. It was fun!

I did have an idea once (but due to RLTM never gotten past the idea stage) of writing an OXP that changed things a bit to suit the maps. So some systems would see lots of traders going through for the trade routes with added GalCop protecting the routes and others of course making them more prone to piracy.
Hmm... Do I hear the beating of the dark side drums in the distance............?

Just to mention that gateway systems (choke points) are usually good for some action!

Hello.
When the maps were first visualized (so that people could actually stand back and look at them) certain structures stood out in the sea of Fibonaccian mathmatics. Not wanting to be greedy the way was left open for members of the community at the time to name these strange let alluring structures. As you may know "The citadel of chaos" was a fighting fantasy book written in the 80's by Ian Livingstone and Peter Jackson. At the time these worlds appeared to have a strangle hold on routes through that area of the map.
As such the name seemed apt and gave a nod to the time when elite was created.
So is there a reason? Yes, but not maybe in the way you were expecting
That said anyone can write an oxp for it, if they want to....
