Misjump

From what I've read here, a misjump happens, if you set either roll or pitch to maximum when entering which space.
Whatever I may do wrong, I have not managed to provoke one single misjump. I set either pitch or roll or both to maximum, tried both, during start of the jump, during end of it, or during the full period.

Only misjump I created so far was by accident, when I tried to follow a random hits target through his wormhole and tried to get it centered while his red dot appeared - so obviously during the end of the jump.

Does a misjump require a certain jump distance? To have much fuel ready, I'd chosen a system just 0.4LY away.

As the hyperspace countdown hits 1, pull up hard - but use the keyboard, not the joystick (if you use one).

Do you use a joystick? Most do not have enough movement, so you should use the up/down arrow keys.

Yes, I use a Joystick, Ok, thanks for the very quick answers, I'll give it a try.

Make sure you pitch UP. That's the only direction that works. The notion that doing max pitch down (or roll/yaw) on 0 would trigger a misjump is just an urban legend.

Oolite has its own urban legends now?

Wow.. we has arrived.

ok... works. :-)

I remember C64 Elite some 30 years ago, Thargoid hunting was fun. It was about the only real thrill in that game which was far too easy sometimes. In Oolite the difficulty level can be set by OXPs, which works fine. Thargoids however have ceased to be fun. I took me ages to kill just three of them. The erratic flight pattern makes targeting a constand adjustment and an occasional two laser bursts out of the rear. It was not threatening in the end, just escaping by injectors. But whow, maybe I just lack the pacience. I'll kill a game, if I'll ever be caught accidentially in mid-space with more than those 3. Except maybe the Thargoid mission. How many do I have to expect there?

In a Thargoid attack on a Space Bar (random hits), 15 of them attacked and I was successfull in putting down 6 of them. Very easy in fact. Is close combat maybe a better idea?

I've always found close-quarters combat to be more satisfying - and more effective in most situations.

If you're having trouble hitting them, then yes, definitely close in. Unless you have a lot of injector fuel to burn, you'll end up at close range eventually anyway, because they can outrun you - you might as well do it on your terms rather than their terms.

You might have to run and re-group occasionally to avoid the drones cutting you apart, but while they're small they don't really dodge.

I don't know what control system you use, but I've recently changed from keyboard to joystick and targeting Thargoids now seems much easier with being able to pitch, roll and yaw all at once.

I use a joystick. I can hardly imagine, how one could do with the keyboard, maybe with other settings, but well, its digital - on/off keys, not analogue like the stick. Also a gamepad seems to be very unprecise. I do not use the yaw axis yet, just occasionally for docking. Might be an idea too.
I usually don't have trouble to aim. The Thargoids simply move quickly in strange ways, unpredictable.
I'll try close combat.

Fuel was not a problem. As I did this intentionally, I chose two systems very close to each other, so plenty of fuel left.

Get up real close to a Thargoid warship and you'll see just how large they are - and they're easier to hit too. As for yaw - I never use it!

Well I learnt to fly on a BBC B ( no choice but to learn to use the keyboard :) ) and it never really left me, so I continued with it when I found Oolite. The Thargoid movement was a problem, but with normal ships once you had them in your sights it could be very precise although with the improvements in 1.81 to the AI it was getting harder. I was worried about changing to a stick but now wouldn't go back

I would recommend it :) if you can have it on the twist axis of the stick.
