Is the status ranking system in Oolite the same as in the original Elite?
i.e.

Harmless - 0-7 kills
Mostly Harmless - 8-15 kills
Poor - 16-31 kills
Average - 32-63 kills
Above Average - 64-127 kills
Competent - 128-511 kills
Dangerous - 512-2559 kills
Deadly - 2560 - 6399 kills
Elite - 6400+ kills

I've been stuck at "Competent" for what seems like an eternity (currently around 340 kills). I think it's going to stay that way for a fair bit longer unless I change my ship & my tactics. I'm currently flying a sluggish Python and concentrating on cargo/parcel/passenger runs across chart #4.

Don't worry! My main commander has been Deadly for years, and only got there because he had a psycho-killing-frenzy at one point. He's much better now and is peacefully going about his business and loving every minute of it. The game is so much more than a kill-count. Don't worry about it - it's not that important.

My Jameson is still suffering from that illness. I wanted to become Elite but managed to sell my C64 shortly before I was successfull. That's still a mission to accomplish!

You might want to get back to G1 (even though it means five gal-jumps) - it seems likely that you've missed out.

If you are referring to a certain Constrictor mission Cody... I read on this here board about it being located in G3 just after I had made the jump to G4. Doh!!!

Aye, though it should start in G1/G2 - and it will lead on to other things too!

I have different ships for how I feel when I launch Oolite.
Though they all have Elite status.
Had to make some Creds to buy the ships in the first place. My super cobra cost 6Mc back in Ver. try somewhere about 2009 2010.
To me it's not about the kills or Credits. It's the fun between station saves. And avoiding the dread "Press Space" command.
Too many times I've got "into" this game and still find myself..
"Sh****" " Forgot to save again" BOOGER!
Basically; Don't worry about your kill count, It'll add up if you survive.

It's a decision you make. Do you chose to go a peacefull way and run a trading business? Avoiding battles in your slow but huge cargo carrier? That's hardly a way to climb up the Oolite ranking ladder quickly.

If you want to add up to your kill count, forget about trading for a while, take a fight-capable ship like the standard Cobra MKIII, equip it and go out scoring hits. Visit some Anarchy Systems, joint the bounty hunters society or the navy (both via OXPs) or simply do the in game missions.

Here's your problem- your pilot isn't suicidal enough. Why don't you just cruise into the proximity of a busy station, turn around, release a Q-mine and inject like crazy! You may not survive, but there's something so satisfying watching big blue circles create small blue circles that become big blue circles...

Not suicidal enough? I'm currently on a run where about 90% of the systems I need to cover to hit my deadline are Anarchic.

I recently updated my copy of Random hits.
Running OO version 1.80 and RH V1.4.18

Seem I've lost my Hits status?? Only fairly good now as compared too max status before.
Is this right?
Not overly bothered.. Will get it back anyway.

On similar line.
Is it possible to reset Assassins to play it again?
That status has stuck "Deaths Master"

After spending more than an hour launching, jumping and getting my python destroyed by a minimum of 9 assassins every time... I decided to load up one of my old save files. I went back to my old Cobra Mk III. Even though I had a kill count of only around 220, it felt so good to be able to move with agility after all the time spent slugging around in a Python. As Alex pointed out... kill count ain't everything in this game.

Assasines means either a special OXP or parcel / Passenger business. I would not do that in a freighter ship...
