Flavor of The new Galaxy Guide

I still like the New Galaxy Guide of Galaxy 1 and 2 on the Wiki. http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Sector1/Index I don't know how it was made but I remember that Treczoks made these. As seen in this topic: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f= ... laxy+guide

He generated the guides on bases of his data I believe. Does anyone have the knowledge to complete this guides for the other sectors too?

Or is it possible to come at least with a guide to the regions in the other Galaxties? I believe Clymangus provided a lot of nice flavor descriptions based on the discussions at that time in the vector map topic. I think it would be nice to have such descriptions of the routes and the regions for the other galaxies on the wiki too. Just for flavor. I do at least like to read al those excellent descriptions on the wiki. And such texts provide good backgrounds for future stories, mission packs etc.

I never knew about these! But I really like them. Have you tried sending him a PM to see if a return is possible?

Glad to be of service 8) . I pm'd with Trezoks a few times long ago but lately I didn't see him around. I haven't tried though.

I've just uploaded galaxy 3 to the New Galaxy guide, using a variety of sources to run an automated script. There's still some work to do: lanes and regions are not listed, and no OXP links have been made. But the majority of the work is done.

The only thing I can't get right is the little circle that appears over the galaxy snapshot when you're looking at a planet. I can't get it to line up without manually going into each planet and adjusting the values until it does. For example, see http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Sector3/Ordiesat. I notice the planets in gal 1 and 2 have the same issue. If someone can point me in the right direction for correcting this I'd really appreciate it!

I've got the data for the other galaxies ready to load, but I'll wait for some feedback about this alignment issue before continuing.

Take a look at the template http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Template:System.
You'll see that Xpos=0,YPos=0 is not in the upper left corner and I guess all pages using this template share this problem.

After a bit of fiddling I think I've got the thumbnail images in the correct dimensions so that all the existing planet pages will now have the circle over the correct dot. I also uploaded new versions of the sector 1 and 2 thumbnails so their planets will do the same. Onwards and upwards.

All the routes and regions have now been added for sector 3. http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Sector3/Index. I don't know where the origins for each of the regions comes from. Perhaps someone with that info can update the Wiki, or tell me where to find the info and I'll add it.

Please let me know if you find something amiss and I'll fix it. Moving on to sector 4...

The region names and origins, along with the 'Spaceway Routes' everyone asks about, were largely the result of a community brainstorming session in connection with the production of ClymAngus' excellent Vector Maps. The thread, with considerable discussion on the names and logic behind them (long read but a good one) starts here.

Before my time, was that. I'd have enjoyed throwing some names into the hat for those charts.

And only by a couple of months, too.. "missed it by that much!", as Maxwell Smart would say.. I must admit I was quite chuffed that one of my suggestions got included.. :D

Aye well... although I did persuade Clym to add Ramaan's Keep (from Kaxgar) to the second octant.

You're right about that thread being a long read - 43 pages! Phew! This might take some time...

VERY MUCH thanks pkkb for adding Galaxy 3. I browsed some pages. Works great 8)

Edit to add: And all the other Galaxies too. Fantastic. :D

All 8 galaxies are now in the "New Galaxy Guide", with about as much automated text as I can compile. From here on it's probably going to be handcrafted.

Data that is still missing:
* Famous Planets (I see that there are references to sector 3 (1 planet), sector 5 (1 planet) and sector 8 (19 planets).)
* GalNavy sector command entries.
* Feudal states entries
* Adding any other OXP references to individual planets
* Origins of the various regions.

I had a look at the thread where the regions were defined. I was hoping for a cut/paste piece of text/lore, but it looks like it might take a bit more work to (a) compile the reasoning behind each region by examining the comments (which would take some time), and (b) distill the reasoning down into a paragraph that fits with the general feel of the origins in sector 1 and 2. A little bit above my pay grade, I'm afraid!

In any case, please feel free to dive in and add the missing bits as you see fit. And let me know if I've messed something up somewhere!

Is ClymAgnus still around? If so, there's a really, really minor bug in the Sector 1 vector map. #218 Anle (just to the right of Tianve) is miss-spelled as "Anie", but hard to tell because it all caps.
