(Solved) - Need some normal maps made

I need a little help from someone of a graphic persuasion - I just updated my GIMP install to the current stable one ( v2.8 ) and the normal-map plugin seems to have stopped working and I can't get it to play ball again (despite downloading the current version of that too).

I'm just drawing towards the close of updating Aquatics a bit, and have some station textures that need normal maps. So I need to ask a favour from someone to do it for me (I'll upload the files to Box and if someone can grab them, make the normals and upload them somewhere suitable for grabbing please).

And as an incentive and taster of what the update is about, the revised Aqualina Prime:

Oh, and if anyone has any tips on how to get the 1.2.3 version of the Normal Map plugin to actually work on GIMP 2.8 I would be most interested to hear about it...

I'd be glad to help out Thargoid, although I haven't worked with Normalmaps a lot, here's a screenshot of the filter showing up correctly on gimpshop which is also 2.8, the version I use:

I downloaded this version here: https://code.google.com/p/gimp-normalma ... -1.2.3.zip

And copied ALL the files, so dlls and the exe file in the PLUGINS directory; don't bother with the bin directory as that will produce an error of the gtkdll file not being found.

C:\Program Files (x86)\GimpShop\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins

All the rest did not seem to work and gave me an error message.

So drop everything in your GIMP2 plugins directory, which should do the trick. Hope that helps you.

I'm sure Griff could to this blindfolded, but I would be glad to process them normalmaps according to your instructions. Drop me a PM.

Thanks - that's the plug-in I'm trying to use too, but even with all the files in the plugin directory it's not appearing in GIMP. But I notice that it's decided to install itself in program files rather than program files (x86) which is a little strange.

I might try and re-install GIMP again and see if that helps, as I'm sure it should have picked up that my system is 64-bit and gone into x86.

Anyway I'll PM you a box link for the three textures that need mapping.

Just to close this off, having now found out where GIMP hides the user-installed stuff (and that it's persistent across uninstalls and reinstalls, as I still have GIMP 2.6 stuff there as well as 2.8) I've got this sorted. There was a copy of the plug-in in there too, and as I updated from 2.6 32-bit to 2.8 64-bit I think it would be the wrong version.

Anyway to cut a long story short(er), having snipped that older copy out and then removed and reinstalled both GIMP and the Normal Map plugin, I'm pleased to report that I now have capability for mapping again :)

So thanks to Dertien for his assistance in mapping stuff during my hiatus, but at the risk of a terrible pun, "normal service is resumed"
