Aside from lots of debug messages, HPC beta2 seems to work fine, I love the flashers and the landing gear!

Wow, more awesomeness! Deploying weapons looks amazing from the front view. I ran into a Cobra which spewed cyan laser at me and I foolishly engaged it having forgotten to read the entire OP.

Cue Press Space Commander.

Can't wait for more ships like that, as you said subents will be reusable - I want my Ooniverse full of hpships :D

It is always good practice to read the first post again, as I change it when something new happens. Since this ship not only implies eye candy but also gameplay mechanics, it's not necessarily a no brainer like ships that just have basic Plists, and model.

However, judging by your post I am glad it runs well and that you like it.

I have tested this on my native intel card also, and I must admit (all ships transformed to cobras) it takes it down to 15 FPS, without other oxp's installed. (Still playable but barely).
The NVidia keeps it at around 60 FPS, which makes no difference in FPS with Griff's ships, so I would say for people with really old machines and graphic cards, maybe this is not for you, but don't take my word for it and try it out.

Since I did a pretty thorough test on the bay doors and the landing gear script for NPC's and player, I am sure these work as anticipated.

As for people who have downloaded this and you feel in the mood to test some things for me and reporting back that would be grand:

a) The gameplay with different laser configurations. Meaning that if you mount a beam laser and a military laser, (or for the really suicidal a pulse/mining laser), does it take too long to destroy a Cobra Mk3, (meaning I have set the energy values too high still) or is it on the contrary, too easy, which means I will have to beef them up)

b)How do NPC's react if you shoot off their subentities. If you destroy an NPC's fuel injector, is it still fleeing at fuel injector speed or not. If you destroy subentities, are all dependent subentities destroyed on the player NPC (like for example when destroying the LCB, it should also destroy LCB lights, turret, turretbox, etc...).

I have around 15-20 FPS with or without HPC, so I can live with it.

I wish I could make Oolite run on Radeon and not on Intel HD 4000. My CCC stopped working properly some time ago and I'm really afraid to mess about with drivers - anyone knows which drivers for Radeon 6630 M are newest and non-problematic?

That should be pretty straightforward and not particularly daunting assuming your GPU is not defective.

If you're on windows and don't want yo risk screwing things up then what you can do is :

- create a restore point
- go to the radeon website, probably the support section, and if it works like nvidia, it should have some kind of detection program onsite that will direct you to the correct driver.
- if not, just follow the steps on radeon driver website that will ask you like computer (x86 or 64) radeon type etc...
- then download the correct driver and install
- if you get screwups you can always revert to the restore point using regular or even safe mode. It sometimes helps to have another PC or pad you can surf with should you not have access to the internet during the screwup.
- when installed, restart machine and follow steps if any.
- Then right click and select run with graphics processor - and choose your hi range GPU

that should be it.

Good luck and godspeed

Haven't tried it yet dertien, but I must say that looks amazing

You may have just opened the floodgates to something very big in ship design for this game :D

Thanks.

Ha!, yes, that might well be so, in that case bring some flippers :)

The good thing about the reusable subentities is that you can get model time down, but the positioning (rotation and position) of the different subents takes a long time. But hopefully everyone can enjoy them at decent framerates. I went back to modeling a bit since I got frustrated with coding.

Thx for the positive remark, and if you do try it out, and find bugs, notify me please.

New screenshots of next ship are on the first post.

Re: [REL] Cobra Mk3 HPC beta 4 + WIP shots HPC Sidewinder

Post by Zireael »

Looked at the Sidey shots, amazing, grabbed beta 4 and will test.

Really fricking angry at the AMD drivers - the dynamic card switching doesn't work for OpenGL apps and the fixed switching requires a BIOS upgrade in my Dell Vostro.
Dad's scaring me with his tales of bricking the computer with a failed upgrade :(

Hey Z

A few things to keep in mind is that bricking your PC with a bios upgrade is possible, but very unlikely since the incorrect BIOS drivers will display a non compatibility message and simply won't run (assuming you are not running this from a USB stick in DOS mode). The stories your dad is talking about is from the old dark ages when DOS was still largely used for that sort of thing. Just run the executable from within your native OS. Of course there is always a possiblity of bricking your Mobo, but if you're running on Intel now and that card fails in the future, what then ? You used maybe only half of the capacities of your laptop and then some. If you follow the manual to the letter, a bios upgrade is as straightforward as a regular in system one. Don't let anyone scare you, get the right driver, double check it is the right one for your OS (64-32bit), Laptop and Video card which should also be built in the driver as a failsafe, then make sure you are always running those exe's in admin mode (always right click and run as admin) upgrade the bios and move on.
Some video cards (talking NVdia here) have an M version (for mobile products such as laptops) and a regular version without the M. I don't know if AMD does the same, so you might want to check on that when looking for drivers.

Always a good thing to have though is another PC/tablet so you can access the internet for a solution in order to make sure that if you are up shit creek, you have a paddle handy.

You should also note that many MOBOs now have a means of debricking recovering from a failed BIOS upgrade. See the manual available at the manufacturer's website for details.
Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied
