So you only have one missile in an Adder or Cobra MKI and so on, but the assumption, I believe, is that those are internally mounted and launched. But what about external pylons? Maybe up to 2 extra missiles added on a ship's wings, in exchange for 1 ton of cargo space (each) to account for the hardware required
In terms of gameplay and trade-off, since they're externally mounted, if a ship gets past your shields there would be a chance of detonating them (and probably blowing up your ship as a result). So pilots using it would be advised fire those missiles first in any battle, holding onto their internal missles for more strategic times.
Sound interesting?

Re: Weapons Loadout Reconfiguration
Externally mounted missiles do look very cool - especially when you see them launched at you.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Re: Weapons Loadout Reconfiguration
Oh, sorry. Hadn't noticed. I've never seen a missile on a ship in my game yet (though had plenty fired at me)

I should've mentioned that that is one particular OXP Cobra Mk III variant - the only one, I think.

<Chuckles>
There are two camps here on the Board...half of us know the missiles are mounted internally, half of them think they are externally mounted.

Re: Weapons Loadout Reconfiguration
must admit i think of them in the same sense as torpedoes , internally mounted with a shielding door on the tube..... arming the missile opens the door....
@mossfoot.... with your idea we could have a Cobra MkIII look like an apache helicopter.... loads of missile and guns mounted all over it.... Brutal... lol

Brutal, but not without risk. The idea being these are exposed and therefore vulnerable to enemy fire. Any shot that gets past the shields would run the risk of setting external missiles off, so you'd want to fire them off ASAP
Fiction wise it would be a practice that the military doesn't use do to safety factors, but pirates embrace because they're all about risk/reward ratios and it means they can more easily overwhelm during the opening moments of a raid.
Game wise if you had NPCs using it, I heard that shields aren't accounted for in enemy ships (don't know if that's true). If so, then it could be coded as just a raw chance of detonating per hit until fired. Or perhaps have them automatically go off when you reach the engine sputtering stage if they haven't already been fired. Something like that.
