Capital ships on radar?

Is there (or should there be) a way to distinguish between fighter/small freighter sized ships and big ass capital ships on long range radar. As it stands they all look the same, right? While I know you can SEE them being big when looking directly at them, for general spatial awareness it would be helpful if I see a swarm of ships around me that I can easily tell which are the fighters and which is the big ship.

The easiest way to do this is via OXP, by changing the scanner display colors of the big ships.

In addition to that, really big objects do get a green transparent rectangle around them on the scanner. No need for core changes here, I believe.

I had noticed that, but I only noticed it when zoomed in. Still, when in combat zoomed in is what I should do anyway ;)

There will be new scanner zoom functionality available in the next release (1.80) - very handy, it is too.

The lollipop surround that A_C mentions is more than enough for a decent sized capital ship. For example if you download [EliteWiki] Liners OXP and find one in the wild, you'll see for yourself quite how visible they are from afar (especially my Emerald liner ;) ).
