Griff_Shipset_Addition startscreen and own ship?

Hi,

I have installed Griff_Shipset_Resources_v1.2.25.oxp and Griff_Shipset_Addition_v1.23.oxp.
All textures of the ships will be changed but not the startscreen and my own ship ingame?

What am I doing wrong?

Hi stevenr, and welcome to the Board :)
Addition shipsets add the re-textures to the default ships as the name implies, giving you a mix of both. If you want to replace the original textures entirely you need to use the 'Replacement' shipset, not the 'Addition' one.
I'm not an expert on Griff's ships, but you might need to do more to get the player ship texture changed - I expect a Griffophile will be along soon who can help you with this.

The "Addition" shipsets add extra ship models and textures, but leave the originals from the core game in place as well, so you'll see a mix of original ships and Griff ships in game.

The start screen ship is the core game version, and your own ship will, until you buy a replacement for it, also be the core game version.

If you want to replace the core game ships entirely with the Griff ships, then install the Replacement_v1.34 shipset instead (download from [wiki]Griff_Industries[/wiki]) and remove the Addition_v1.23 shipset.

Isn't there a way to edit a gamesave, so as to avoid having to buy a new ship? I seem to recall someone posting about doing that, but it was a long time back now..

Hm...

If I use Griff_Shipset_Addition_v1.23.oxp i can edit
<key>ship_desc</key>
<string>cobra3-player</string>

to

<key>ship_desc</key>
<string>griff_normalmapped_cobra_mkIII_scuffed_player</string>

to have the new textures.

With Griff_Shipset_Replace_v1.34.oxp I have a mix of textures.
Is it possible that the names have may been swapped (or am I stupid!?)

I'm not sure that works, I think you might run into some problems with the gun positions and camera views being wrong, there is an OXP that will change your start ship to the cobraIII from the 'griff addition' shipset, it's available here

but I think the best advice is cim's above, keep Griff_Shipset_Resources_v1.2.25.oxp, remove Griff_Shipset_Addition_v1.23.oxp by deleting it or moving it out of your Oolite\OXP folder and add in Griff_Shipset_Replace_v1.34.oxp (it's only a small download about 400KB)
Doing this will replace your start ship and all the ones that parade by on the title screen :D

I have found my problem. I cant use the german translation OoliteGerman_V0.3.oxp.
After deleting it works fine.

A quick check would suggest it's possibly the shipdata.plist in that OXP that's the culprit. It was produced before Griff's shipsets were released.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, (I probably am) but from what I can remember of the difference between Replace and Addition sets, this would affect the Addition set, but not the Replacement set, yes?

I replaced the shipdata.plist from the OoliteGerman_V0.3.oxp with that of Griff_Shipset_Replace_v1.34.oxp - works.
Now i can use OoliteGerman a see the new textures - perfect.

Cool.. good to know I was on the right track, even if I got the details wrong (as usual! :mrgreen: ).

Did you insert the German translations into the replacement shipdata.plist? or just leave it in English?

I have nothing edited - and i cant see that ingame is something not in german???

The only thing it affects is the names of the external views. Given that you're flying a Cobra MkIII, you could probably get away with just editing the entries for that ship. Here's the relevant section from the German version:

The external views (press v) are in English. I still change it.

I almost forgot.. if you're using Windows, do NOT edit the plist with Notepad or Word. They will break things. Wordpad is fine, though.
