After going through hyperspace, I get the message "fuel leak" and all my fluid drains away. What can I do to prevent this keep happening?

Preventing it is difficult. Don't initiate hyperspace jumps - always hitchhike on other ships' wormholes.
You can reduce the chance of it happening by ensuring your ship is well maintained - when the maintenance overhaul is offered, go to a high tech shipyard and buy it.

Also as a hint, your two recent posts are not unrelated to one another

If I use my escape capsule, will the replacement ship leak?

To be blunt, the leak could be caused by a couple of things:
1. A badly maintained ship.
2. An event happening with the star in the system you've jumped into....

You can jump all you want but you will still have a leaky ship and lose the opportunity of seeing what else is going on in the galaxy unless you have already visited ALL of the planets and have done ALL of the missions that might be there and have killed ALL of the offenders and fugitives that infest the local space.

You're kind of missing the point.. he took the only non-cheatish option to complete the mission that caused the leak in the first place. He did exactly what the mission called for, (which incidentally cures the leak as well).

Is the above really true?
Just had a disastrous fuel leak at Zaonce in an almost brand new ship (no maintenance needed for some time). With Stranger's World running (everything takes fuel), and no spare money to have bought an extra fuel tank, it killed my Jameson!
I was running a bunch of oxp's (as usual), and I was wondering if any of them contribute to what I presume is a "Vanilla game code" event.
