[RELEASE:] Riredi (ambience OXP)

Hi,

this .oxp adds some eye candy and background story to the ooniverse, a customized Riredi-system:

"Riredi is very fabled for the Rirediian mountain slug. These gigantic creatures are isles of flourishing
life on the barren planet and each of them forms a complete ecosystem. Dealing with radioactives is strictly prohibited on this world because radiation is harmful to the slugs. Riredi is home of Coluber Inc. and Riredisec Ltd."

I gave the planet a custom texture:

(Planet Riredi, galaxy 1)

This is my first attempt in the art of planet texturing. Taking that into account I think the result is o.k. I hope you like it.

Then I gave the Planet a custom main station. Since Riredi is a corporate state world, I added background information in the planet description that Riredi is home of two fictional companies, Coluber Inc. and Riredisec Ltd. You can see the logos of Coluber, Riredisec, Galcop and the riredian navy on the gate of the main landing bay.

(Sodalite station, Riredi system, with one of the stations defense ships on a intercept mission and a trader heading for the jump point.)

The model is based on a truncated octahedron. As far as I can see this Archimedean solid has not been used as basis for a oolite-station yet, so I filled the gap  . Because the crystal structure of sodalite is also a truncated octahedron, I named this type of station "sodalite station".

And last but not least: I have equiped the station with a custom BGS docking tunnel for those who use the
BGS-A1.9.oxp:

The new BGS docking tunnel is a absolutely cool feature! 8) :D . Many thanks to all developers of BGS for manking this possible.

You can download the .oxp from here: https://app.box.com/s/etcxda4iaph5dlebdk33

If you find any bugs, please report them.

Since I have no access to the wiki, I kindly ask if someone with access to the wiki could add the oxp to the oxp-list. Thank you in advance!

Best regards

C.B.

It certainly does, In fact so much enamoured with it am I . that I would like to see it more often , say for example in Stations for Extra Planets. So perhaps your people could talk to Captain Beatniks people and something beautiful may occur. :)

Not for a station, but those who have played through Cataclysm OXP will maybe remember the shape. Only a little BIGGER!

That´s a very good suggestion! Spara has already sent a pm to me and I gave him the generic textures so he can add a generic version of the station to the Stations for Extra Planets oxp.

I've been working on an update to this OXP. Here's how it looks so far:
Image

New diffuse, normal, emission and specular maps for the station. Switched to using the Pitviper Mark II for the station guard ship, and gave it a new diffuse, normal, and specular maps. Also made the station sell at least 1 Pitviper (but possibly more), each with a 10% discount.

Question: At present, you'd only see the Mark II guard if the station is attacked, not as a general replacement to Vipers. Should I make the special Pitviper Mark II the default police ship for Riredi, or leave it the way it is?

Image
Updated the planet texture, added city lights, normal and specular maps.

Still working on the lights. Not completely happy with it yet, but it's getting there.

Let me know what you think. I'll hopefully publish this before the weekend.

That planet image right there is beautiful. May I snaffle it for inclusion in Explorers' Club 1.4.8?
