Buying ship maintenance voluntarily

A while ago I was in a situation where I wanted to trade my existing ship and cash for a Boa Cruiser with naval power and military shields that was on offer at a TL15 port. I was about 2500 credits short. So I went off on a long flight to a TL3 anarchy to earn a bit more cash, did quite well, and came back about 4000 credits over budget. Except that I'd been in a couple of fights and the trade-in value of my ship was now about 5000 credits less. I went through this cycle about eight times - each time the trade-in value was down more than I'd earned from the round trip. The really annoying part is that I had to do this without saving and logging off, in case the ship wasn't there when I logged in again (as had happened the last time I found something like that), so it took several hours of more or less continuous play.
Eventually the ship needed maintenance - as soon as that was done the value was well up again, and I was able to buy the ship and had enough spare cash for a military laser. But an option to get early maintenance would have got me the ship much faster, albeit without much money for fitting it out - maybe the price could be based on the depreciation of the ship, since something must be tracking that.
Any chance?
