Thargoids, thargoids everywhere.

Post by Agis Silverfish »

Hello!

I have been milkrunning Diso and Leesti for some time but now everywhere I go there are Thargoids attacking the Station as I dock in and out. Diso, Leesti, Lave, Zaonce... I am getting better at docking under fire but all I want is to trade peacefully. What's the matter? :(

Sounds OXP related to me...

It has to be an OXP causing that - any likely suspects?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

A most valuable skill to acquire, is that.. and you've cunningly found a method that doesn't involve a criminal record.. well done!

I wouldn't go as far as calling that a method. Let's just say that I don't get killed 100% of the times.

My current OXPs are:

Anarchies
Behemoth
Better Screens
Bigships
Buoy Repair
Cabal Common Library
Commies
Dictators
Diso
Galactic Navy
Gritty Coriolis
Hard Ships
Ice-Asteroids
Iron Hide
Lane Legal
Missionaries
New Ships
Ore Processor
PA Groove Stations
Planetfall
Randomshipnames
Saveanywhere
System Redux
Target Reticle
Taxi Galactica
Telescope
Feudal States
Tori2
Total Patrol
Towbar
Transhab
Transports
X-ships
Z-Groovy Sistem Stations
Zeke Mining Transporter
Z-Ships
Zygobuoy
ZygoCinematicSky&Nebulas
ZygoRoids
Zz-Oo-Haul

I am going to try planetfalling at an adequate planet.
Edit: Oh, boy. I still haven't bought the license.
Edit: Zaonce Station under attack. I could dock but I didn't have enough money for Planetary Landing Capability.

Edit: Same problem with a new game and a new install. I removed all OXPs and the Thargoids went away. I'll put back the OXPs one by one and I'll tell you if any OXP seems to be involved in the incident.

When trying to identify which OXP is causing problems, the binary method saves a lot of time..

Remove half the OXPs. If problem goes away, change to the other half of the set and try again.

Continue removing half the OXPs each time, eliminating the half that are trouble-free. Repeat until you have identified the culprit.

Even if you have hundreds of OXPs, this method will let you identify the source of the trouble in less than 10 iterations.

Great tip. I assumed that some OXP were working properly since they have been with me for quite a time and I examined the new ones more carefully. To my surprise, the problem came from Telescope_0.85.oxp. I double checked. If you're interested in my saves or anything please tell me.
Thank you!

Hello Agis Silverfish,

I see that your version of Telescope is an older experimental version designed specifically for play testing and development.

The latest release of Telescope https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14961 will address the issue regarding too many Thargoids

The best thing for an test oxp is the addition of an [wiki]OXPMessages.plist[/wiki] inside the OXP. This will put an annoying message on the startup screen, telling the player he is working with a test versions of an oxp. :) This helps preventing the use of that oxp outside testing purposes.

Hi Agis Silverfish!

I would like to ask how you managed to install exatcly the 0.85 version. I put it into the oldversions folder of my box when there are newer versions in the same folder also so I do not known why you missed these. Maybe we can prevent others to make the same mistake if you remember what was the false way.

I think I clicked too quickly and I didn't notice that I had opened the Older Versions folder. Sorry for all the trouble. I'll be more careful next time.
