Oolite Bulletins

I am an old Elite player enjoying this game but despite many attempts I cannot change the keyboard controls or unzip OXPs.
Despite this I am still happy playing the basic game but I have not received any missions, are all missions related to Oxps?
I am rated competent with 240 kills, have my original Cobra with all the upgrades. I am still in galaxy 1. I have a clean status and 70000 credits. Should I expect to be offered a mission?

... yep! 256 is a very nice number - two to the fighting eighth power! Which OS are you using, btw?

Have you been offered to buy a trumble? That's the first mission. There are five native missions.

Check the [wiki]Oolite_Missions[/wiki] page about the built-in (native) and OXP missions.

We will help you to unzip if you tell a bit more about your problem, for example you can use the unzip command under Linux or the minunzip in Windows.

Thanks everyone. I am using Windows 7.
I have refused a Trumble (my mum said that litter trays and space ships don't mix!) I have now reached 256 and am at Reesdice looking for the constrictor. 4 more missions to go If I cant unzip the OXPs.
I have also tried to edit the keyboard keys and put into the addon files but got fed up in the end.
I have tried minizip but have a message saying that it is not compatible with my windows

Right-click on the .zip and go Extract All; look in the extracted file for the .oxp (you might have to delve down a layer or two); copy & paste (or drag and drop) the .oxp into the AddOns folder. Restart Oolite, and you should be good to go!

Are you using Notepad? This editor famously breaks all things Oolite by adding unwanted extra characters, which may be why your mods are not working. Use Notepad++ or any other good text editor and you should be fine. Also you may need to clear the cache for them to work - hold down the 'shift' key when starting Oolite untill the spinning Cobra shows.
I'm a penguinista and am not familiar with Windows 7, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't come with an un-zipper. Try right-clicking on the .zip file you have downloaded and see if there is an 'extract here' or 'unzip' option.

Try Total Commander (use the Files/Unpack menu or Alt+F9) or Winrar (this will help if an oxp ending with .rar also).

Blue Lagoon if you are wanting little change to the Vanilla Oolite but more missions you could try one or more of the Taxi OXPs (like Yelloo Cabs or Taxi Galactica) for more passengers, UPS and Rescue Stations for delivery type missions and perhaps if you want more violence Galactic Navy and Random Hits might appeal. If you succumb to the dark side and change your Ooniverse to being OXP Ooheavy rather than Oolite then myself and JazHaz have made some recommendations here: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP of additional OXPs you might like and you can get a list of more OXPs here: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/OXP_List
