I finally scraped up the cash to buy a SuperCobra last night...WOW. I was upgrading from a Python, so the difference in speed is unbelievable. I am still oversteering a bit, but this thing is just a joy to fly. And I'm sure this is just my imagination, but it seems to kill things faster, too. :)
I guess flying a Python was a bit boring.. Was it standard Python or Python Cruser?
Standard...can't afford the cruiser yet. It's next on my list to try after I'm done with the SC, though!

As for the imperial courier, I can't afford it yet. Unless the new version is cheaper than the one I'm running now.

Don't you think Supercobra is a bit _too_ good for the game? It simply beats any standard ship with hands down... Too many energy banks and much too quick recovery rate... As well as being very fast and possessing a large cargo hold...

Well, there are Ixian Freighter, Python Cruiser, Imperial Courier and Rattlesnake.
I still prefer Supercobra, but it is reasonably big to make a good target and does not have enormous hull nor excessive speed.

I think flying Ferdelance NG with NEU and MSE you may just avoid battles without even involving injectors - hyperspace to a system, point to a station, push to full throttle and it is likely that no one except maybe thargoids will have enough time to take your shields down as you fly by. Isn't it "a bit too good" as well?

Old Imperial Courier with .550LS and small-dimensioned (but big capacity) hull definitely was, but Supercobra is just ok.

No, it won't. It's 0.375LS now.
 Hey, I just spent my last Credits on one! AaaAAAaaaAAAAAAAAAaagh!

And me hesitating between a Wolf and a ImpC, sigh...

(/me hoping one of the older savegames was prior the IC purchase....)
Could you please explain why people find WolfIIse so exciting? Its tech specs do not appear to be really outrageous and we humans are not allowed to own multilasers.. So seems like nothing is really special except fancy artwork (which cannot be seen from inside anyways ;-)

I think it's because of the unique mystery of the Wolf.

It only ever appeared on one version of Elite - the Amiga version, and was never documented in any manual or official documentation.

All that was known was that it was the second hardest ship to be up against (below the Thargoid) and was often found in convoy with a Thargoid.

Loads of time was spent by fans trying to work out what the Wolf was - the fact it was found in the company of Thargoids, added to the fact that it vaguely resembles an insectoid head, made many players believe it was another Thargoid ship design. Others felt that Wolf pilots were all Elite combateers.

The less we know, the more we want to chase it.

Indeed, I should prolly have mentioned all those as well... Somehow, I think many of these .oxp ships make the original ships feel like children's toys, which should not, in my humble opinion, be the case.

On the other hand, when you have enemies wielding powerful dual lasers, I can see the attraction of owning an übership as well... :?

I remember it was rumored that Wolf is joint human-thargoid design, unrealistic as it seems, but who knows..

(remembering Thargoid battlecruisers escorted by Ferdelances in LinewarsII, not exactly Elite universe.. I miss thargoid battlecruisers somehow, is there a way to attach an enormously powerful single laser to oolite ship?)

Haven't got that "children's toy" feeling, well-equipped Cobra MkIII is still iron ass hard enough - it fits any of current missions! and it is far superior to any barebone ship, even most expensive ones.
