The US government have finally confirmed that Area 51 really does exist.
The acknowledgement comes in a US government history of the U2 spy plane programme, obtained by George Washington University's National Security Archive through a public records request.
There is however no mention of flying saucers or aliens :(

For those who want to know about the CIA U-2 and A-12 (OXCART) programs tested at the Nevada Test and Training Range and at Groom Lake—the correct names for what Jacobsen persists in calling Area 51—this account will be informative.
CIA Library book review from 2011

And, of course, it’s been a searchable location on Google Maps for ages. This isn't news, it’s a puff piece.

Not entirely..

In July 2013, CIA released documents that officially acknowledged the existence of Area 51. The documents were released by CIA in response to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted in 2005 by Jeffrey T. Richelson, a senior fellow at George Washington University's National Security Archives. Richelson submitted this request as part of his continuing study of aerial surveillance programs and the documents provided by CIA - and publicly released online by the National Security Archives on August 15, 2013 - represent a substantially less redacted version of a history of two key aerial reconnaissance programs titled "The Central Intelligence Agency and Overhead Reconnaissance: The U-2 and OXCART Programs, 1954-1974". The latest release, almost 400 pages long, is notable for the significant amount of declassified materials, including numerous references to Area 51 and Groom Lake, along with a map of the area[38].
This is the first CIA acknowledgement (apart from what seems to be an accidental slip in 1967) of official use of the term "Area 51", something they've always taken pains to deny, insisting that the proper name is "N.T.T.R.", "Groom Lake", etc..
