Asps tend to be tuff, so I tend to launch a hard point at em.
That gets them to run away and I clear up the rest.
However I never get a text message too say I killed the Asp.
In Original Elite (BBC B disc).
I could launch a missile at a ship, and it would run away, but the missile would kill it or ship would ECM it quickly.
ECM hard point should always kill a ship? or hurt it badly:)

I just wish that I could have a credit for every missile that got past my ecm, I would be a very rich smuggler. Unfortunately, even hard points do get through on occasion especially if fired at close range in train. The ecm may get the first but not the others necessarily. Know your target and their missile loads, goes a long way to determine if you are in close or a safe distance away before engaging.

Most ships will be destroyed or severely damaged if the missile hits them. Asps, however, are fast to start with and usually have fuel injectors, so they'll just outrun the missile (which does, as you've noticed, at least get them out of your way).
