Anything above military laser?

Hi there,

I'm having a rare time with this - well done everyone who works on it, it's superb! Now - I keep coming across ships who are totally impervious to my military laser, also since I upgraded my shields to miltary enhanced, ships appear with super lasers that batter me down immediately.

Are there more shield/energy enhancements I can make (I have extra energy unit and shield enhancements)?

Is there a better laser I can buy?

Thanks.

No, Military laser is the most powerful weapon available for players.

Some NP ships do have killer-guns for sure, even more than one installed, also something players can't have.

It's a question of knowing when to go running to the hills, I guess...

 I missed the gist of the message.

The problem has been mentioned, and Giles knows about it (and is working on some seriously new stuff re: collisions and targetting.

I've had it w/ thargoids, all of a sudden, when you shoot them, the 'red flash' meaning you hit them, just don't happen anymore, but if you waver in and out of view, they become vulnerable again.

Some Asps too...

Yes, there was a problem with ships becoming iompervious to weapons fire as they themselves shoot (not to mention the collision detection problems).

All fixed in v.163 (next week, I hope to release a test patch).

Indeed. I shall keep some spare fuel for injectors.

Thanks for the replies.

If you do, be aware I haven't put in any #ifdefs around the caching parts, you'll need to search for 'cache_path' and do some linux localisation.

I think the ECM-hardened missile counts as a superweapon.
also the energybomb/Q-mine are superduper.

I've also had trouble hiting many ships, like sidewinders or vipers that i had to shoot in the exhaust plumes and sometimes not. The thargoids and Asps were the most obvious holograms though.

not to mention A_H's fuelpods that are totally impervious to military salvo ;)

You lie!

They are very much explosive, just too small for you to hit, butterfingers. ;)

There was an unimplemented Thargoid laser in early versions of the game. (it didn't work, but it was in the equipment list, and only available at a tech level beyond that of every planet!)

Giles --- when's it coming on stream...?

It's still there at techlevel 99. :)

I believe it is on stream sort of. Obviously the thargoids use them. You can also assign it to an NPC ship if you're feeling nasty. You just can't get it as a player. Hmmmm, I wonder if it can be assigned to a player as a reward...

It always seemed a bit odd to me that a so-called 'military' laser can be bought by any civilian space trader with a couple of weeks' experience and fitted to a small fighter-trader like Cobra.

What do the military use to blow up Thargoid battle cruisers, then? Since when has the Navy ever had to try and fight wars with an off-the-shelf peashooter?

IMHO the big ships should be able to accommodate much more expensive and powerful weapons than the usual range. A 'real' military laser should occupy several tonnes of space and deplete energy at an alarming rate - but if you can shoot straight, regular civilian pirate vessels shouldn't stand a chance. (Of course, if you can't shoot straight, you're in trouble!)
