Hello - long time no see...
Here's a diffusemap-only mockup of what I've been working on recently... possible update for the Taniwha-Tahi.

I'll be able to work on the effects today.
Here's hoping the OXPs havn't changed too much.

I'll set up the re2dux materials method - but I was thinking of using Griff's cobra shaders to add variations.

The livery is not final - I just liked some sort of spots or stripes for the big intake-whatsits for more of a predator look, and maori designs for livery.
I figure to use Griff's cobra shaders eventually to vary the paint-scheme.
Also add animated sections and more lights ... like the inside of those intake things should be all lit up with something glowy and moving inside, and I'll put something rotating filtery in the exhaust.

Considering the original Taniwha from the wakatoro oxp (?) I thought the player version just has the laser you see, but the NPC versions would have additional weapons mounted on the pod things. (In the original the pod things each had a beam laser - and an exhaust.)

I've got my regular re2dux materials setup to test this out with - and I'll upload that so early-adopters can have a looksee ... any... time... now...

I'm having trouble getting this finished - my system crashes (GPU lockup) every time I try to run OOlite.
It's run on this machine before so I'll have to troubleshoot...

... may have to fire up by B-machine.

Fixed! (Sort of) Changed the game setting to run in full-screen mode... The new Gnome 3 seems to just hate running OOlite windowed, but this means I cannae get screenshots :( working on it. Enn-nee-wayy:

The early-adopter version of the taniwha-ng is out.
No livery and not fancy ... as yet. It won't show up in the shipyard but it may do in roles hunter and pirate.

I included the obj and mtl files so people can try their own mods.
I'll be twiddling and tweaking too.

Notes on concept:
Those who do not know and/or did not get the original Taniwha ...
This is based on a earlier design back when I replaced all the core ships with Aotearoa (NZ) themed editions.
The Taniwha is the NZ version of a dragon cum genius loci.
The ship is supposed to be a rare high-tech ubership ... lots of power etc.
I think the ng version could use a little more creativity.

Different note: there seems to have been some activity since I was last here ... what should I read?

Some interesting and quite unique ships are the Freight Train by Rorschachhamster and the capital ship with detachable module by Smivs. :D

Also... I don't know If you like to put your hand to an old work (neolites)... There's a strange problem with shaders that we were not able to fix: https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.ph ... ue&start=0
However, if you're not up to resume a work so long ago, I fully understand.

Which is unfortunately stalled at the moment for various reasons - mostly RL (TM) reasons and having a lot of OXPs needing updating for Oolite v1.77. Hopefully work can resume very soon.
Back on topic, that's a beautiful ship Simon - up to your usual high standard. :)

Oh yes ... and then I have to upgrade. I'm still on 1.72.
I'm thinking in terms of major changes that are likely to affect the way I build the OXP... or may add to the feel and utility of this craft.

You could always give the built-into-Oolite screenshot capabilities a shot.. (the * key)

Ah - I knew there was one!

... needs more variation in the specular, and I think I should make the engines and pipes smooth.
