[Solved] Oolite 1.77 Intel Graphics problem

Hello. The problem appears when I fly in open space. My scanner disappears. When I make screen small it works.
In Oolite 1.76.1 scanner workes fine.

Your inxi -G output is missing a driver.
For example, my machine gives:

So system use i915 module.
I think so. But for some reason inxi -G doesn't show this information.

That's weird, for sure - seems like inxi -G should show the module. What distro are you using? To clarify - both full-screen and maximized window mode give this behaviour, but making the window smaller eliminates it? (Looking at the screenshot it looks like you have the game in a maximized window - and clearly missing the scanner).

You may want to try the -nosplash option when starting Oolite, too.

I use Linux Mint 14. I make screenshot in maximized window. Full window mode give same behavior. If I make window size 1/4 of screen, then scanner appears and work fine. Scanner not always missing, when I try to flight near planet scanner start to blink.

How can I use -nosplash when start Oolite?

That's right, you can't take a screenshot through Mint if you're in full-screen mode - but Oolite can by pressing the ' * ' key.

I try -nosplash option. With same result. In full windows mode also I doesn't see scanner.
Have you any other idea? Or I'll back to 1.76.1 version.

So something in the graphics settings then? In which case, I guess we need somebody with some knowledge of Intel settings.. I'm using Nvidia, so not of much help, sorry..

This bug's affecting me too.

Confirmed on Debian 7, Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04, and 13.10-daily (including Linux Mint variants where aplicable). The scanner is usually nonexistant, but irregularly flickers in and out. Lolipops on the scanner are still visible at all times, by the way. This problem also affects me when in stations, which I don't think was mentioned in the original post.

I'd really like to get this fixed. While Oolite is technically playable, you lose a lot without a reliable scanner. I have not tested at all on Oolite 1.76 (yet).

Also, it should be worth mentioning that this bug affects the scanner no matter what HUD you're using. Problems presist on alternative HUD OXPs, so it's not the default HUD plist that's at fault.

Okay, seeing as no progress has been made in this thread, I did a little more research. Here's what I found:
  • This bug affects Oolite versions 1.77, trunk build r5678 (the latest as of this writing, but it does not affect version 1.76.
  • The scanner flickers more when you are changing your ship's velocity. Change the speed or direction your ship is going, and the scanner usually flickers. Stay still, and it usually stays either visible or invisible.
  • The scanner sometimes flickers when moving up and down a menu, such as at the load commander screen. Perhaps it isn't just ship changes, but any keyboard action?
  • The outer elipse that makes up the border of the scanner disappears when moving the target system indicator in the long range and short range charts. No flickering, it's just gone. The straight lines throughout the scanner don't disappear, though.

I've got a slightly different graphics setup now with a Radeon HD 5450 (there is Intel HD Graphics 2000 on-board, however), and r5610 doesn't *any* problems to speak of.

I tried reverting that commit, but had too many conflicts. Can anybody else with this problem test to see if this is also the bad commit for them? The latest GOOD revision should be:

Looking at that commit, the most obvious cause of the scanner disappearing would be if emptyDial was being set incorrectly.

Could you try replacing

with

BOOL			emptyDial = NO;
in the drawScanner function (around line 900 of HeadUpDisplay.m) to see if that makes a difference, please?

Applying that change does not fix the bug. I'm looking through the patch and trying other random things...
