BB Favicon.

When I open a tab on most websites they have a small logo of the site in the tab section next to their name. It would be cool if the BB had a logo pic also.

How problematic would that be?

EDIT: Changed subject title to accurately reflect the subject.

Curious that... oolite.org has a logo, and I'm sure the wiki used to have (and possibly the forum too).

One of the easiest things to do - if you have access to the actual folder on the server where the forum is hosted.

As does the nightly-build server..

And I agree withWolfwood.. very simple to do.

It's called a 'favicon'. and if named as favicon.ico and placed in a 'folder called 'icons' within in the 'images' folder of the website it will be automatically displayed by most browsers.
At least that's how my Psy Corps logo appears on Smivsonline.

The prefered method to ensure it shows though is to add a snippet of code to the <head> section of the HTML of the page.

It also works from the root directory of the site.

I think a favicon for both the forum and the wiki would be an excellent idea. I like to have a quick launch bar along the top of the browser and currently the forum and the wiki are the only sites without an icon - It's no biggie but it would be a nice little touch :)
If no one can think of anything then it may be a fun idea to have a competition to design one!

For consistency, I would use the same as here: www.oolite.org

That is what I was thinking with the Oolite logo.

What is the chance of this being implemented?

Well, I guess you only need to convince Giles. I have no idea, though, how interested he would be.

<Ponders about the most effective way to summon the presence of 'The Giles'>

But it would be nice to see the Oolite logo in my tab bar.

A simple PM would do, methinks.

Yeah, that was the first thing I thought of. I wanted to see if the idea was going to get a bit of support first.

It certainly has mine.. it's rather unusual for a website to not have a favicon these days.

Apparently there are old- and new-style flavicons. The old style version is apparenly no longer supported by the Safari browser:
Favicon is not appearing in Safari:

If you have placed a favicon (the icon you see in the address bar and bookmarks) on your site and you can see it fine in Firefox but not Safari then it is likely that the icon file you are using is only 4bit (16 colors).

Open the favicon.ico file in an appropriate application, such as Graphics Converter, and resave it as an 8bit (256 color) file and re-upload to your site.
They say that is are small files, but my flavicon cache has grown to over 11 MB by now. (Cache is used to show the icons on bookmarks etc)
