Processions idea

This idea has been partially inspired by Smivs' post and partially by Ironfist's passing post.

To add little more 'atmosphere' to a system, I thought of a funeral ceremony where you get a derelict, unpowered ship being towed by two 'tugs', and followed by a line of a dozen or so random ships. You could also add four or six Vipers as escort.

This procession would travel along the planet / sun route. Upon reaching the sun, the tugs release the derelict which continues into the sun. After that point, the procession ships travel back to the main stations for the wake, and the escorts revert back to default Viper behaviour.

I would suggest that this sort of a ceremony only be performed in the safer systems where there is a low chance of pirate action. Is it possible to prevent the spawning of pirates in a system while the procession is in progress?

On a lighter note, this could also be used to celebrate happy events also. Strip out the tugs and the derelict ship and replace with a stretch Anaconda luxury liner, include a variant of the seedy bar and you've got yourself a hens or bucks night. Perhaps also throw in the fireworks OXP for a bit of atmosphere.

For that matter, we have stretch limousines. Why not a stretch Cobra, the perfect vehicle for the commander with more money than taste. It will handle like a barge but boy, won't you look badass in it.

It would atmosphere to a system - given the small chance of seeing it happen... I like it.

Thats a very interesting and touching idea Bugbear. Once again Oolite adds even more humanity into it's content. I cant think of any other game that had randomly generated funeral processions or hen night parties.

Well in the interests of making this idea a little less maudlin, for the bucks night variant I envision a fleet of drunken vessels flying erratically, occasionally bumping into each other, and hurling obscenities (in the interests of keeping things family friendly, these obscenities would be good-natured) at passer-bys.

For the hens night variant, model a giant tiara that can be plonked on a ship...(I wonder if a ball and chain model can be attached to the buck's ship also?)
