Is There Any Way at All to Add More Asteroid Fields?

I really like mining. Its relaxing. There's a pretty cool variety of oxps which allow me to do interesting things with mining. Deepspace pirates are scary.

So naturally I like asteroids as well. They're nice. Solid. Floaty. They have nice things in them which people will pay lots of money for. Pretty sweet.

So my question is, does anyone know if its possible to add more asteroid fields - hopefully, away from the spacelane? There have been occasions where, through some blip, oolite has added fields really, really far out during system generation. However, mostly, it seems like space is just barren once you get a few dozen klicks from the spacelane. Even from the planet to the sun - just, nothing there!

I would really like to know if there's anything I can personally alter in order to make this suit my liking a bit better. It's just so disheartening to fly around in empty space for klicks and klicks on end.

I have the opposite problem - the one of the last times I played (which admittedly has been a few weeks now with school on) I ran into a space potato whilst looking at another screen - I switched right in time to see the thing coming at me and then "Warning: Outer Hull Breached" :P .
Edit: Seriously though, there should be plenty of space potatoes between the planet and the the sun... ;)

Indeed, usually there should be one or two asteroid fields between planet and sun. In order to find them, make sure that you keep both planet and sun centered in front of and behind you. If you fly in a straight line from the station to the sun, you may miss the asteroid fields.

And no, there is—to my knowledge—no OXP that just creates additional asteroid fields in deep space. It wouldn't be difficult to create one, though. One problem would be to find asteroid fields in deep space, of course. As you already discovered, space is so huge and so empty that you could fly around for hours without stumbling upon asteroids, even if they existed.

And if you also like just shooting asteroids, maybe I could interest you in a game of [EliteWiki] Asteroids3D!

If you don't mind sharing, then get yourself a [wiki]Rock Hermit Locator[/wiki]. Every rock hermit will have a large field of asteroids, with its own miner.

I think that the dredgers.oxp are specialised in deep space mining. You find them sometimes far outside of the space lanes, busy with mining such an asteroid field.

Hi Twisp, if you like a dense asteroid field, I suggest you add Cim's excellent, [wiki]RRS_Group[/wiki] OXP. I won't say more and if I am mistaken someone will come along and correct me.

Its also worth installing [wiki]Asteroid Storm[/wiki], as that gives a lot more variety in asteroid fields, even after doing the mission...

[EliteWiki] Jaguar Company adds an asteroid field around the base. Usually on the WP to Sun route, unless there is an opposition/conjuction of the WP / Planet / Sun. In which case it is WP to Planet route plus you have to guess which way up is in relation to the planet.
