No-one? Did I imagine I posted a question??
Perhaps you should wait for Commander McLane to log in again, since it was his request..

Maybe it's because we're polite - "if there's nothing positive to say, don't say anything and hope he vanished back into the swamp..."
Maybe it's because nobody else regards themselves as fit to judge whether the Orion model is "acceptable".. Very few people outside Germany ever saw the show.

How about a flyable Death Star.

Pretty much unlimited fuel, super powerful weapons and can be easily destroyed with one missile to the right spot.

Maybe not. As Commander Wilmot pointed out elsewhere, cleaning it could be a problem 8)

I think you might have to deal with a rather upset GGShinobi if you didn't
LOL, okay, I'll run with it. Like I said, though, someone else may want to do the texturing. For me, I would paint it as close to what I see in the pics, but it may not be satisfactory to others.

Heck, I've never seen the ship before, except those pictures. Looks like you're doing great with it. Even if no one else says anything, just finish it for fun. I'm betting you'll get a few customers, though.

Selezen - Good looking model. I look forward to seeing it in game.

I've got a feeling that I should know this but which programming is this ship from ?

Sorry, I got distracted.

@ Selezen: I think it's a very worthwhile effort. Comparing your model to azzameen's, I notice a difference in the top section. There is this hexagonal star structure in the middle (which can also spin). Also, I think there should be eight struts on the underside instead of six, with the understructure possibly being octagonal instead of round. Also, there seems to be some elevation between the middle disc and the smaller upper and lower discs. Other than that, it's looking good. :D

Some inspiration may be taken from http://www.orionspace.de, where you can also find renderings and pictures of models. The movie trailers from http://www.raumpatrouille-derfilm.de/kinotrailer.htm have some useful shots as well.

Getting two instead of one is even more exciting. :D

One thing I have no idea about is which size to use for the model. The dimensions for the original are given as 150m in diameter and 32m high. However, as we all know, there is no easy translation of Earth meters into Oolite "meters". Of course, sticking to the numbers would allow the Orion to fit into a docking bay easily, which is nice. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether I imagine the ship to fit into a docking bay. Actually, I rather envision it as a capital ship. It has shuttles on board, after all. Again, on the other hand, it is capable of landing on the ground. I'm torn.

It seems difficult, however, to find good quality original screenshots of the model.

Jackpot! Detailed paper/plastic model plans.

Edit: some sketches that will be useful for texturing.
http://www.orionspace.de/pic/orion_bogen_col.pdf

Has some detail on the sensor-disk that the model plans omit.
http://www.orionspace.de/multi/bastelbogen.zip

Very detailed cross-section sketch.

Largest side-view of the model I can find. (bigger than in the plans)

The Eagle Transporter from Space: 1999 would fit in quite comfortably as a low-tech (possibly in-system) hauler:

Damn it all to buggery hell. I built my model based on a Shapeways model, since that site has a rotatable view of each model. Obviously the tit who uploaded that model did NOT do his research very well. One would expect a 3D modeller who is SELLING stuff to be a bit more thorough.

Anyway, I did find a screenshot that shows the underside:

And those cutways help. Thanks. I will start again from scratch.

Is there anywhere I can get english-subtitled copies of the episodes? Is there a DVD?
