As long as there is room for a bar where I can get my shot of Cebetelaian lethal brandy I don't care how big a coriolis station is

I remember reading that passage of the Dark Wheel and finding it odd.

What do you understand it to mean? To me it seems to suggest a hollow station with all its structures on the inside of its hull. Or am I getting that wrong?

However, this interpretation introduces yet another problem of scale: you can't possibly have a hollow station with cities (plural!), lakes, rivers, and even a ski slope within a diameter of a mere kilometer.

So I'm at loss how to actually visualize the description. Or I'm totally misunderstanding it.

No I get the same image from that description as you do and I think you nailed my point right on the head. I understand that we have scale discrepancies in the game (some of which are to do with making the game playable) but I would prefer to reduce the number of scale discrepancies where ever possible rather than completely give up.

I am not sure which system's station that passage is referring to (Lave??) but there is nothing to stop someone making, via an OXP, the station in that system larger than normal to keep in with The Dark Wheel.

Edit: just searched the Dark Wheel and it's Xezaor in G1.

Maybe it's bigger on the inside? 8)

I would like to throw in my take on the Coriolis interior which looks like this:Image

Is there a copy of this anywhere which I could include in our wiki? Download link is broken...

I just noticed your request. Dropbox moved their links years ago breaking bit.ly links (I can't change existing bit.ly links without paying.) So here is a new image link:

Thanks for this! I'll post in on the wiki with your commentaries.

Can I just ask about BGS: I much prefer your older spiderweb witch-tunnel effect to the newer. The newer seems to work from a graphic in the oxz. I can't find an equivalent graphic in the one you worked on. Any chance of your briefly explaining to a dumb pilot how your spiderweb is created?

Sorry, but I only helped out in a minor way. I think it was help with the GUI backgrounds to the map screens, but it been so long. You will need to contact Svengali he is the one who would know about the witch-tunnel effect.

It's up: https://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Corio ... n_(Oolite)

Let me know if it needs nobbling in any way! (or if you need a wiki account to nobble it yourself!)

Does anybody have any idea as to how many people one would expect to find on a Coriolis station? 1km x 1km x 1km...

No idea. But I'd compare it a bit to Aircraft Carriers.
They are a base for planes and provide all the infrastructure these planes need. Including crew and the infrastructure they need.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Gerald_R._Ford

So I guess a typical station would have a crew of roughly 5000. Not counting guests for bars, hotels etc.
