Comets

I've been thinking about ways to bring comets into the game.

It should be relatively easy to have a large asteroid model converted into a comet nucleus and give it an AI to fly towards and into the sun. Its the tail that is the problem though.

The explosion debris that comes off destroyed ships and disappears could be an answer, if there was a way to stop it disappearing. Anyone?

Personally I think the new exhaust plumes would look quite good on the back end of a comet, except that the thing would need to be moving very fast to get a decent length tail. And the colour may look a little odd

Yes, I agree this could be an idea. Perhaps if the plume could be made into different colours (white/greys). Maybe one of the devs could add a subroutine based on the plume subroutine but for non-ship objects?

The comet would need to be quite slow though.

@Styggron: Thinking of doing a fun OXP. A comet that orbits the system with proper trail pointing away from the sun.

A custom AI that self-destructs on a timer? Maybe even take the Q-bomb AI and remove the part where it wipes out everything.
