Galactic Chart Second Thought

When in the Galactic Chart, why does "Zoom Mode" (The "z" key) on the IFF Work?
If you are searching for a planet that begins with "Z", the IFF moves to 2:1 zoom ratio on the scanner.
If you are searching for a planet that begind with "D", cargo does not leap out of your ship.
If you are searching for a planet that begind with "S", you do not slow down.
Just wondering. Before I say this, understand that I have NO knowledge of programming, perhaps hitting the "z" once on the Galactic Chart page could search for a "Z" planet and hitting it twice could trigger the zoom mode.
I thought that this did not happen in 1.55, but was wrong. I just notice it more in 1.62 because of the cool look of the zoom on the IFF.
Best,
