Interest in an anthology of Elite fiction?

Hi all!

This was just posted on the Frontier Elite forums as a response to an "idea" that I voiced there:
So an anthology of short stories would be fine for the writer's pledge. Whoever is the named person for the pledge is considered the editor and is responsible for putting the anthology together. That includes collating the works and getting them approved - we'll need to check all the fiction to make sure it fits in the Elite universe.

The other restriction is that the anthology is limited to 15 contributions.
So, what I'm asking is that might we have enough interested participants here to put together a pledge and start writing?

You beat me to it Wolfwood.
I'm not joining in, you wouldn't want me to. But there are authors here that have already proven that they would be up to such a task.
I wonder if a collective pledge would be a first for Kickstarter as well. Anyway, I would support and encourage any such approach. I like reading Elite SciFi.

That would be £300 per author minimum (to cover the pledge) and while I'd love to do it my finances are still recovering from managing on half our normal family income for the last three months while my wife recovered from her cancer.

There was a Baker's Dozen stories in Alien Items I recall, but two of them were mine, three Drew's and Vaccum Dancerz was very very short.

There's more new blood on the fiction section now though, so it remains a good idea...

I'm wondering if we could "simply" start a Kickstarter for it to ease the burden on the authors a little bit. Pledge 300 and you can write one of the stories etc. (for the "open" positions, that is) :?

£300 is a lot of money as far as I'm concerned. I also have a more fundamental problem as regards paying for the privilege of writing a story. I'm delighted that Drew has managed to raise funds to cover his license, and I'm sure he'll produce something great that people will want to buy. But a novel produced by one writer, with one vision, is an entirely different beast to an anthology. Trying to edit a 15-author project where all the contributors have paid money to be in it ... it sounds like a nightmare.

Admittedly not the greatest situation to be in when offering constructive criticism, I admit.

And, yes, paying for the privilege of writing is also a dubious proposition, I have to admit.

The latest plan is to try to set up a Kickstarter to find willing people to back up the possible anthology. The idea is that the writers themselves would not have to pay much for their spot in the limelight. If you are interested, visit this thread at Frontier forums:
