The Strategy Informer website has an article on its editorial page titled: The Best in Free PC Games and Mods: November 2012.
Guess which game is mentioned at the top.

wow, batten the hatches, incoming!
if you go to their front page, it's the first most prominent link, so bound to be read by a lot of people.
... should that end up in external links on the (official) Wikipedia page? (remember the notability thing...
)
(Edit:)
too bad it's quite a fugly screenshot they use....

Nice....
However, the download they have available is corrupt. Comes down at 8kb and told me that it was not compatible with my system. (And it does say PC version, whatever they mean by that)

Any offers?

True, but it's nice to see Oolite as opposed to Oolite-plus-OXPs being displayed. Too often in promotional sites and pages folks try to make this game look sexy. Nothing wrong with that as such, but I think too many people forget that the game players actually download looks like this.

Oh, absolutely, but still a bit of a poor screenshot, I had to look twice to be sure that was not a strange new station, didn't look 'right' from that angle and lighting

Yes I agree with that sentiment entirely. The Coriolis is actually very hard to get a decent screenshot of - something to do with the shape.

Yes, I already wondered why it listed as only 7Kb on their site. Also strange that the download count was only 25 while it was uploaded at 5 sept.
The comment also wrote that no read-me is available, suggesting they did not have the original package.

For what it's worth I just clicked through to the Contact Us page and told them the link was broken and suggested they link to oolite.org

Oolite is featured in one of the biggest German PC games magazines, GameStar, issue of February 2013. This month's main article (Titelstory as it appears on the page header) is the revival of the space sims, with particular attention to Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous. Following the two main game presentations, complete with interviews, previews etc., there are four pages' worth of free space sims on offer, including the FS2 Source Code Project and derivative total conversions, Star Conflict, Star Trek Online, Battlestar Galactica Online, Allegiance, Vegastrike + derivative mods and... tada! Here it is:
Maybe our German residents can offer some help with the translation of the article?

Oolite
Quicklink: 8213 For everyone who has the upcoming
Elite Dangerous in mind and wants to refresh his memories of the original game,
Oolite hits the spot. The fan project almost perfectly clones the gameplay of the original
Elite. Just like in the old days, we're touring a huge universe without being bound to any objectives - except for, maybe, try to amass as much money as possible as a trader or to reach a figher-pilot ranking of "Elite". You won't find modern bells and whistles like missions or a campaign (not even an optional one) in this puristic remake. Even the respectable 3D-graphics, despite of it's capabiliites, remains true to the old way of presenting starships and space stations in simple, geometric shapes like triangles or hexagons. This makes the game the perfect choice for nostalgic people - but
Oolite offers even more: users can access any aspect of the game, build their own extensions and offer them to other players for download. There are by now a manifold selection of options available, which allow us to shape the game exactly to our personal preferences. For example there are the space bars which offer an unlimited amount of randomly generated bounty-hunter missions, or a flight school with tutorial-tasks in the starting system - should you still have your difficulties with performing that accursed docking manoevre. And if you add the right ship models to the game, Oolite even looks really impressive.
Suitable for: worshippers of Braben and haters of docking computers
Screenshot 1: Oolite bears a striking resemblance to the original elite...
Screenshot 2: ...but with the right extensions it can do even more.
No fights but still interesting: Orbiter allows us to pilot highly realistic shuttles and missiles into space. (Quicklink 8214)
EDIT: Hey, that was my 256th post!!

Excellent! Thanks for the translation; the article sounds a pretty reasonable presentation; good first line (always important!), and a nice introduction to some of the oxps.
