OXP idea: Station's promonade/promonade bar OXP

When you dock at the new Griff stations you can see some larger windows above and below the dock.

I wonder if it is technically possible to make an oxp where you are able to visit the promonade. It would be nice to look to the outside from the inside of the station. Making for nice Eyecandy.

While visiting the promonade bar you can then watch the ships docking and departing and be able to look at the nice povray planets or watch a furball unfold while you are sitting safely at the inside :twisted:

Technically I can see this works as a launch function without a launch and with a view above or belov the docking bay. And of course you are rotating.

I could write some music for it or you can choose to listen to a sort of hyperradio. Or to have only the station ambient from the BGS oxp.

It would also be nice to relax with a RL (tm) cup of coffee.

Is this currently possible or in 1.77?

Possible in trunk:
- interface to get/buy a viewing pass
- launch player by script, with custom break pattern
- stick the player's ship way out of the way by script, use a BGS-style overlay shader to put the player on a screen that says "press 'v' to look out of the window"
- use the custom view setup to position the camera in front of the station looking towards the buoy (this will get a lot easier if you set player.ship.orientation = station.orientation)
- when the player leaves the custom view screen, redock them with another custom break pattern
Implementation left as an exercise for the reader...

Probably not completely impossible in 1.76, but definitely not straightforward.

Wow great that it is technically possible in Trunk. I can't do it but I definitely know someone can.

Ah those interfaces are really handy.

Without damage to the player I assume?

The only problems would be launch/docking actions from trunk and OXPs.

For example when you did the "launch" if you had any contraband in your hold you'd get effectively fined for looking out the window, and of course any OXP script actions for launching would also happen. Then any docking actions from OXPs would also happen when you went back inside.

Of course all that can be worked around with a bit of manipulation of manifest and some monkey-patching, but it needs to be considered.

But the elevator bits etc are quite easy - if you want some examples of what can be done look at the beta's of Planetfall and Aquatics (at the HQ station) if you've a nightly or self-build of 1.77.

Window fines! Who knew?

Also, some mission events might make sense to trigger on "wandering around" inside the station. 8)

I like this idea - the only thing that could make it better would be being able to pick up bounty hunting missions while at the bar :mrgreen: . Seriously though, the idea of lounging and watching station traffic would be nice, especially with some appropriate music :D.

Having more than once enjoyed sitting there in my ship, watching a furball being fought out whilst the orchestral version of the Blue Danube from Delightful Docking played, I can only agree.. :lol: (yes, I'll confess to even sitting there and "conducting" along.. :mrgreen:)

:lol: "conducting". It is a good piece, however, I generally get to be less and less a fan of Romantic music the hokeyer it gets (really, I think it's the size of the orchestra typically that starts to turn me off (the orchestra kept getting bigger and bigger), but I also really don't like atonal music - I'm a "tonal animal" to quote my piano and composition teacher back in the day :D ). Anyway, the choice of docking music is indeed truly classic.....

Really I mean both (as far classics are concerned); 2010 is the one I recall the music being in, although I probably have that wrong, since it's been over 10 years since I've seen either of the movies :P.

Ha, watched them both again recently - both are excellent. The music though is in the first one when the Pan-Am (who?) Orion is approaching the 'wheel' space station.

They are both excellent movies indeed. That's exactly the scene I remember, just from the wrong movie :roll: :lol: .
I really should see those movies again it's been so long.... :D
