Help...!

Hi, I need an oolite boffin to get me out of a bit of a fix...
I've just docked at a planet called Biedtive in galaxy four.
When I did a screen came up asking me to help evacuate refugees as the sun was about to go supernova. Being a public spirit chap I accepted and was promptly launched. The only problem was I had no fuel and thus quickly redocked and stocked up. Whilst I was there I saved my game.
The problem is now everytime I launch the cabin overheats (from the supernova sun) almost instantaneoulsy and I explode. There's not enough time to use witchdrive injectors either....
I've got over 1200 kills to my name and a shiny new Wolf mk11 with all mod cons. I think I'll cry if I have to start again.
Can anyone see anyway round this conundrum...?

Interesting conundrum. What's happened is the Nova mission has kicked in. The preferred way to have escaped was to use a galactic hyperdrive to jump to the next galaxy. Having returned to the station for fuel (and save the game) you may not have left yourself time for that to work. I'm not sure there's a way out without editing your savefile. Have you tried hitting "g" as soon as you launch and then using fuel injectors to speed away from the sun while the hyperdrive counts down?
If there's no way you can find to escape, and you're desparate not to start your Commander again, I suspect the only fix is to edit your savefile. This is not difficult - just make sure you keep an unedited copy in case I tell you something incorrect or you make a mistake. Open up your savefile using a text editor (TextEdit on a Mac works for this). Look for lines such as:
Code: Select all
<key>mission_nova</key>
<string>NOVA_HERO</string>
<key>mission_novacount</key>
<string>100</string>
and delete them.
Also look for:
Code: Select all
<key>local_planetinfo_overrides</key>
<dict>
<key>3 134</key>
<dict>
<key>market</key>
<string>none</string>
<key>sun_gone_nova</key>
<string>YES</string>
</dict>
</dict>
and delete those. Note that some of the numbers may be different for you - don't worry about that. Just make sure there are references to "nova". Save, start up Oolite and see what happens.
Good luck!

Cool problem. It highlights a bug in the Nova mission.
You aren't suppose to return to the station after launching - I guess I may have to blow it up!

Please make sure it blows up with the poor sap still inside

There turned out to be several problems with the scripting system that this turned up. I've committed the fixes, and I hope these will be the last before I release v1.62 final.
Oh, and I blew up the space-station after the forced launch. No running back inside to save now!

Completely OT, but I find that Cobra/Courier gestalt entity in your avatar somewhat ...disturbing...

BTW... galactic hyperdrive? Is a plain witchspace jump not ok, then?

Unless you scoop fuel from the erratic sun before it goes Nova (dodgy - but it
can be done), you'll have no fuel when asked to perform the Nova mission.

Forgot about that. Been awhile since I last did the mission...

Cmdr Wombat you have saved my bacon.
Your tweaking suggestions work and I am once again roaming the galaxy.
The only thing that seems amiss is that I now have a "transport refugees to safety" line in my f5 mission list which I can't seem to get rid off. But that's small beer compared with losing my entire savings and kills.
So thanks...

I'd think you still have a line describing you as in the middle of the nova mission in the profile-save file. if you remove it you'll get another chance at saving the day

There should be a couple of lines in your save-file that say something like:
Code: Select all
<key>nova_mission</key>
<string>Transport refugees to safety.</string>
Delete those lines and it will disappear.

And let that be a lesson to us all. Remember to stock up on fuel before you embark on a mission instead of being too hasty and pressing the launch button
I think I may just let them burn!
