[UPDATED RELEASE] Coluber CRR-5375 Red Racer heavy fighter

This.oxp adds the Coluber CRR-5375 "Red Racer" to the Ooniverse.
(This ship is also part of the coluber.oxp. Here comes the single ship .OXP that contains only the updated version of the red racer.)

The Red Racer is a fast, heavy long range fighter. It´s primary field of application is to act as escort for cargo ships that want to visit political unstable systems.

The Red Racer is something between an Asp MK 2 and a Cobra MK 3. Faster than a Cobra, but slower than an Asp, more cargo capacity than an Asp, but less than a cobra, slower energy recharge rate but better maneuverability than both.

This ship has VERY good dogfight abilities and can be equipped with strong shields. Thus is quite popular with pirates and bountyhunters alike.

It is rumored that some members of the Fist of Alecto, a secret society of bounty hunters, fly a special version of the Red Racer that is invisible on normal scanners. But if you ask me, that stories are just the same seaman´s yarn from the spacelanes as the stories about the deadly wonder worm, the mystic queen of the trumbles or the "Flying Dutchman" cobra MK 3 that guides the lost souls of those who die in witchspace back home.

If you want to use the CRR-HUD, just edit the shipdata.plist and delete the two slashes in front of the line "hud = cb68_crr_hud.plist. Or just put the stand-alone-version of CRR-HUD into your addons folder.

I have added a save-file containing a fully equipped Red Racer for those who just want to make a quick testflight.

For those who want to customize the Red Racer I have also added the GIMP and WINGS3D sourcefiles in the .ZIP-archive. The use of the sources makes customizing much easier. But be careful! Playing around with .OXP´s is highly addictive. :wink:

Your racers are really nice, I've got em all. And trophies too :D.

At the moment they are scattered into three (?) oxps that overlap (?). I mean coluber ships, yellowbelly and this. Are you going to bundle them all into one coluber racers oxp?

Yes, at the moment they are scattered into three .oxps: The first version of the Red and Blue Racer are in the Coluber.oxp, the Yellowbelly Racer is a pure single ship .oxp. at the moment and for the updated version of the Red Racer there is also a single ship .OXP. (Both single ship .OXP´s should be compatible with the Coluber.oxp.)

Once I have completed the update of the Blue Racer, I will release a single ship .OXP containing the updated Blue Racer and a new version of the Coluber.oxp containing the updated version of all three ships.

Btw:
If I get the spacestation I´m currently working on up and runing, the updated Coluber.OXP will also contain some eye candy and you will get the cance to visit the Coluber Works and Shipyards Ltd. in a renovated Riredi system. But this will take time, I do not have much more than an untextured model yet :roll: :

I have named the new type of station "sodalite station" because the model is derived from the crystalline structure of the mineral sodalite <Na8Al6Si6O24Cl2>. It will have twice the size of a standard coriolis station

Warning:
The Upgrades list is merely a copy of the Blue Racer one, and I've no idea what the yellow paintjob is supposed to be!



If you do update these OXPs, as well as adding in more graphic detail (specular gubbins, etc), you might also wish to add in a shiplibrary.plist (so that your ship appears in the vanilla game Ship Library/docked F4 screen "View Ship Specifications" option.

As regards the Racer HUDs, you might wish to allow them to display MFDs and also make them HUD-Selector compatible. Take a look at how Phkb updated your popular Coluber HUD: Phkb's "Coluber HUD Custom" (2019) with some of the XenonHUD specials added (different laser sights, minor protection for scanner against solar glare), different equipment lights and the lines crossing the screen removed

Also, the Fist of Alecto can also now be brought to life as rather more than an occasional encounter. See the Jaguar Company for one possibility. Or bug Phkb for other ideas! Or have a good look at the Library OXP and have a ponder (eg. P.A.D.'s Guilds, Persons, Systems and medals/awards).

Ditto for Riredisec Inc. with its armada of escorted traders. AIs can be added to get a small fleet of traders to act as one (see Convoys & Escort Formations - Freighter Convoys is merely cosmetic).

Ditto for the Riredean Navy (just PitVipers?).

And your famous pilots (Eccles, Maxwell D. Fishhead, Saramant the younger) can be added with their own custom ships, personalities and found in their own haunts.



There are all sorts of possibilities. As ever, it depends on what you find enjoyable to do.
