[RELEASE]VTBSShipset

The two ships in this package are loose representations of the two submarines in Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea. However, they are NOT identical copies. I purposefully changed them to fit the Oolite game, so the shape, size, and color patterns of both ships are different from the TV series submarines.

The biggest ship is the VTBSCruiser. It looks bigger than it really is, being very long, but not all that wide. Space Stations WILL take it in on autopilot, and I recommend this method of docking with a Space Station with this ship. It boasts forward and aft Beam Lasers, and six ball turrets. Don't worry, this ship is not a killer. The energy settings listed below will show that if you try to use this as a bounty hunter, you will most certainly be destroyed, even if you win a couple of encounters.

Stats:

energy_recharge_rate = 3.0
max_energy - 350
max_cargo - 80 tons
max_flight_speed - 300
thrust - 25

The MT1024Explorer resembles the flying submarine from the TV series mentioned above. It's quick, and scrappy, with plenty of energy, speed, and weaponry to defend, or hunt. It is also the official escort ship for the NPC version of the VTBSCruiser. Though it looks similar to the flying sub, if studied closely it is not quite the same. Not in shape, or in capabilities, since my version has to be a Oolite space ship.

Stats:

energy_recharge_rate - 4.0
max_energy - 400
max_cargo - 15 tons
max_flight_speed - 450
thrust - 45

Mandoman - I particularly like your The MT1024Explorer. Great work.

Thanks, and I agree. It's darn near as good as the SolarWing, and it isn't even as fast as that ship. I thought it was kind of eerie how well it handled, right from the start, even with the hole in the left wing. :)

Dayum, I love that VTBSCruiser.

Mandoman, I thank you deeply for this release, I like both these ships tbh, that nautical look nails me every time, but the Cruiser is the prize for me in this pack.

Thanks again man.

Glad you like it, superbatprime. I wasn't sure how it would be taken. It definitely looks more like a submarine, than a spaceship.

I like when it rains, that gives me a good excuse to stay inside and test some good stuff like those nice space vessels.
Let's have a good weekend :D

I really like these Mandoman, and the idea of 'adapting' vessels from a TV show is quite cool :)
Maybe we can expect a Starsky and Hutch Gran Torino-like ship, or something a bit like the Dukes' Dodge Charger as well? :D

Smivs, that's not a crazy idea at all.

Those cars have very distinctive shapes and could very well translate quite nicely into fighters... minus the wheels of course and with a bit of tweaking to the lines, or even boy racer ships.

If anyone can pull it off, MandoTech's engineers have shown they got the chops for that kind of challenge.

*looks at the MTI Pontiac Firebird* ;)

The Red Tomato? That does sound interesting. You guys shouldn't put ideas into my already twisted brain, LOL!!

Once again, while putting together the Wiki page for this oxp, I found an error. It's not a big deal, but I had the MT1024Explorer listed at 900,000cr in shipyard.plist, when it should have been 300,000cr. The corrected version's link is now in place, and will also be available on the Wiki. Sorry for the hassle.
