First, love the game.
I'm only posting here coz couldn't think where else.
This is to do with a couple of Cmdr. CSOTB oxpers.
Custom Shields;
Brill, Except, bloomin alloys burn up just as you get there to pick them up, And rest of debri/cargo/remains seems to take off really fast.
Is that a wee bit of Newtonian sneaking in?
OXP is staying in my addons anyway.

Ballance Capacitors;
Love the sound when they are working for a living, sounds electric.
BUT
The recharge sound on every launch, not my cuppa.
I don't want to switch it off, just replace it in my game.

Audio from Danger Mouse comes to mind.

So if you can show 5+ & - lines of your code for that sound, maybe I can play with it for my own game.

You mayhave noticed I'm not that good with coding.

I don't remember who done the voices for DM and Penfold the hamster side kick, Would be great for Energy/Q bomb as you hit the fire button,
Penfold "Is that a bomb?"
DM "Yes Penfold,... Run"
Copyright sharks would have a laugh.
If you have never seen/heard of Danger Mouse, that stuff will be silly.

Anyway If you could point me to the sound part of Caps recharge, would be great.

Inside the OXP there should be a folder called "Sounds", which quite unsurprisingly contains the sound files used by the OXP. You'd perhaps have to replace those with something suitable, in the appropriate file-type format (.ogg).

Oh and Dangermouse was voiced by David Jason (Del Boy/Pa Larkin/Dt Frost) and Penfold by Terry Scott (Terry & June/Carry-On films). Classic stuff ;)

Thanks heaps Thargoid,
I'll have a look at the sound files. Though I've never heard of a .ogg file before

Not ashamed to say I'm a big fan of all of Cosgrove-Hall's work, although DM was always the best...

.ogg is one of the open-source formats (Ogg Vorbis to be fuller). There are many programs out there which can convert to/from it and other formats like mp3 and wma if needed.

I have DM on DVD - there's not as many as you think!

Count Duckula (who started in DM of course) was another rush-home-from-college-to-watch shows.

This thread should be moved to Expansion Packs. Obviously it only contains questions about OXPs (=expansion packs).

From DaddyHoggy;

Mine were on tape, cd/dvd not being invented, unless you count the Philips laser disc.

Well on me way to meet a huge fat Pizza at the south end of G2.

Was that 8-track?

@Alex:

The hull plating is shot off of the ships when their shields are down so they are actually debris and have a finite lifespan before they destabilize and disintegrate. I was just trying to add a little realism along the same lines as alloy panels spawned when a ship dies but don't want to add too many long lasting entities which tie up system resources and also am mindful of adding too much free "alloy" cargo. Disembodied wants way fewer hull plates spawned or have them last a very short time while you want them to last long enough to collect them all.<eyes rolling> Oh well, guess I can't please everybody and it would seem the original frequency and duration is right between the 2 of you. The oxp damage section is already in the process of being completely revamped which is why the delay to release version 0.9.

About the velocity of the blown off panels "hull plating", there is vacuum outside the ship and pressure inside the ship from air or plasma conduit so when your laser frees up a hull plate it tends to go flying in a direction directly away from the ship at a good speed. I've had ship plates hit me hard enough to make my shields flare up, which is a good thing, and I've had my own hull plates shot off the front of my ship right in my view because they were going just that much faster than my ship to not collide even before I saw it, which is a really good thing and adds to much playing enjoyment.

About the shield capacitor charging sound on launch, if it is just when you launch that the sound is a problem for you, then add this to the beginning of the launchedfromstation = function:

this.secforwardshieldcapacitor = 64.0;
this.secaftshieldcapacitor = 64.0;

then the capacitors will be fully charged when you launch and there will then be no spammy messages and no charging sound. In the viewtopic for the oxp someone had already done this
to their own copy.

If you really want to replace the charging sound then I have something really important to tell you. The sound must be exactly 1 second in length, no more, no less. In the startup you will see sound 3 and sound 4 have a repeatcount of 32, which tells you that that is how many seconds it takes to fully charge a capacitor as the sound of 1 second length repeats 32 times. Having the sound a different length will require a different repeatcount so the 2 multiplied equals 32. However, a longer sound might(possibility) run too long if the capacitor was charging and was suddenly stopped because of a shield being hit and/or the capacitor discharging. It's a very delicate balance. Anyhow, give it a try and make it work great for you. :)

Could a kind moderator please move this thread where it belongs, to Expansion Pack?

Pretty please.

With a cherry on top.
