I remember this in the news at the time, and reading the book that was published soon after - an extraordinary, and harrowing, tale of survival.

I only remember hearing about this from later on, probably 10 years old. I was only 8 months old at the time of the crash. Stangely I do remember (very vaguely) the last moon landing in December 1972. My mother kept me quiet by placing me in front of the TV.

That's a cool memory to have. I have a few odd memories from very young, and they are purely visual. It's odd what gets remembered and what doesn't.
This event happened 6 years before I was born, but I did hear about it in school and in the 90's, saw the movie made about it (although I'm sure the book is infinitely better).
<Realizes that he's almost 40> - man, time sure does fly :P .

I don't know, but I suspect that such an early memory is actually an implanted memory, stemming from the parent repeatedly telling the child about it a few years later.

It struck a chord with me at the time, as up until a year before, I'd been a rugby player.
