Problam installing OXP`s

Hi guys,

I`m having a few issues getting my OXP`s to work, as far as I can tell I have extracted the zip files to the addon folder & both OXP`s are showing in the addon section once i am actually starting the game but my game has not changed, it is not playing the OXP`s.

The OXP`s I installed were:

Random Hits & Assasins.

Can anyone point out where I am going wrong please?

Cheers

Hi Chilly and welcome... you need to be in G7 for any Assassins missions, and for Random Hits, you need to find a seedy space bar to get contracts. Hope this helps.

Hi Chilly, and welcome to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat.
Assassins is set in Galaxy Seven, so if you are not there you won't get anything. RH is more general and should be working, but remember you will need to be in an Anarchy system to find a Seedy Space Bar.
A couple of things to check...are you using the current version of Oolite (v1.76.1) and the current versions of both OXPs. Check here on the OXP list.
Also, can you post your latest log. Logs can be found in the Oolite folder where the AddOns folder is. Post it here and we can check if the OXPs are loading.
One other thing. Although not strictly necessary for new OXP installations, try holding the shift key as you start the game. This clears any cache and is normally needed after updates or changes to OXPs.

Hi Chilly and welcome - One other thought.

Do the files located in your AddOns folder end with .oxp as this is the part of the download that you need to install in to the AddOns folder.

What he said... the two OXPs aren't showing in your log, so that is probably why. Only install the folder that ends in .oxp or they won't be read.

Yup, that's the problem
Download the .zip files and extract them. This should give you a folder called 'XXX.oxp' (where XXX is the name of the OXP) and a readme file. Move the 'XXX.oxp' folder into AddOns and you should be good to go.
Also, do please read the Readme! It's a good idea to keep records so I'd suggest you start a new folder somewhere called 'OXP store' or similar, and keep all the OXPs you download there for future reference. I keep the .zip and the .oxp and readmes together. This is just an archive and is seperate from the copy of the OXP in your AddOns folder.

I think I`m having issues with the unzipping.

This is what i`m doing atm:

1) Downloading Random Hits
2) I then doubleclick on the "Downloaded article"
3)It takes me to a menu with the name "Random Hits 1.4.14"
4) I then doubleclick the above & it takes me to this: Name Date Modified Type Size
Random Hits 1.4.14.oxp 09/10/2012 13:53 File Folder
Read Me 09/10/2012 13:53 Rich Text Format 22kb
Spoiler 09/10/2012 13:53 Rich Text Format 22kb

It`s not giving me the option to move to the add on folder unless I go into my download menu, right click on Zipped folder & extract to the addon folder via my "Programmes" menu, then clicking on OOlite. But it`s only extracting the "Random Hits 1.4.14" NOT the actual OXP at the end.

It`s this damn computer I think.
It`s an Acer ASPIRE 5732Z Laptop.

Just extract all. Then you'll have it all unzipped and can move the .oxp folder into your Addons.

Right-click on the downloaded .zip; extract all; show extracted files; double-click on the RandomHits1.4.14 folder; the RandomHits1.4.14.oxp should now be there.
C&P (or drag&drop) that RandomHits1.4.14.oxp folder into your AddOns folder.

MInd you, that's using Win XP... you're probably on Win 7, but it should be similar.

So there is a normal folder labeled RandomHits1.4.1.oxp in your Addons folder and you've been to an Anarchy system and can't dial up B on the Advanced Space Compass?

Just a thought, I use Linux so am not too familiar with Windows these days but I seem to remember several people in the past needing to download an un-zipper to use with Windows. Does it come with one as standard?

The OXP itself should be within that folder - try double-clicking it again.
@Smivs - XP certainly has unzip as standard - as do 7 and Vista, I expect.

7 and Vista have native zip file unzip built in.
