NASA Astro Picture of the Day

Post by JazHaz »

Today's image is an optical illusion. Boxes A and B are the same colour, really! Check it out here, today only!

I get the NASA Astro Picture of the Day as my new mobile's Wallpaper, via the NASA app for Android.

APOD is cool... I have it set as my browser's homepage.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Glad you resurrected this thread- just discovered this site thanks to you guys I've been thinking about making an add-on that'll randomly put up some cool graphics- this looks like it'll fit the bill perfectly. And before anyone suggests it- yes, I was also considering scraping the pics from the screenshots thread.

The Astronomy Photographer of the Year award was won by this fantastic comet photo:

Image
A rare photograph of a comet that will never be seen from Earth again has won a prestigious photography prize. The image shows a piece of Comet Leonard's tail breaking off and being carried away by the solar wind. The comet made a brief appearance to Earth after being discovered in 2021, but has now left our Solar System.

I don't usually go for "artist's impressions" but this is such a beautiful image, it's gone straight into my screensaver gallery.
Outbound from Sol, crossing the Kuiper Belt - Makemake and its moon! Aah, if only...

Full-size image at APOD here.
