Most games have some sort of paddling-pool-and-water-wings beginning to ease you in: Oolite takes the rather more Darwinian approach of heaving you straight into the ocean, often with a brick or two in your pockets for luck. ~ Disembodied

Apologies for taking so long to get this done.. images now added to the wiki page.

Just wondering: surely instead of pitching/yawing along two axes these ships should have a triangulated three axes of manoevurability?

And is there vocabulary which better describes what I'm trying to say?

You wouldn't be assuming a non-fixed cockpit would you by any chance?
Or a similar three axes to be present in the make-up of the pilot perhaps?
