I found this recently and been playing with it. It's called Fracplanet, and it's website is here
http://www.bottlenose.demon.co.uk/share/fracplanet/
I used subdivision=7 and rivers=100 to get this, in the default colors:
Just saved the generated terrain from fracplanet as a texture (in .ppm format).

I was watching a program on TV tonight about extra-solar planets and it got me thinking about this application.... and whether anyone has tried it out
... it's pretty spiffy, really.

Not I. I have a fairly good method built up for creating planets. But since mine are all "hand painted" (I don't use a generator like this), my production is VERY, VERY slow. And after the reception my last works received, I became discouraged and quit.

So, no Ultra high resolution Deep Horizion system?
I was waiting for it since when I first installed the standard version

Well understood, Cheyd... a pity though.

I started a hand painted planet, so I know what you're talking about it just how much time it takes - it's ridiculous. That's where this app comes in to speed up the process - I would totally still doctor up what it produces with Gimp, but the app gives a nice foundation from which to start.
I'm sorry to hear about the reception of your last works - Deep space systems, right? - I think they're great - and I had a hunch even before I tried hand painting one just how much work they are... so thank you for your hard work. Sorry that more people didn't show appreciation of the work you put in.
