What's the correct pronunciation for Oolite? Does the "i" sounds like in the word "like", or does it sound like "ee", like in "sheep"?

Same as Elite, I reckon, but with an oo instead of an e.

I think the double oo in Oolite stands for 'object oriented' programming, so I pronounce it U-leet, with a long U.

I reckon oo-leet is probably the best pronunciation, but to be completely honest with everyone, I've pretty much always said oo-light when I've said it out loud (something to do with having a fairly deep-seated interest in geology)

there are probaly as many right ways of pronouncing Oolite as there are of pronouncing Linux. But that's a different qan of wirms.

FWIW I'll try to remember to say oo-leet.

Well, just for adding some information, here in Brazil we pronounce Ooleetch, with the "oo" pronounced like the "o" in "gold".

I recall this coming up in a previous thread:

Oo-er. (Or do I mean, Oh-a-er?)

How do YOU pronounce "Oolite"?

[Sort of OT] Or, since the OO bit is effectively invisible to the end user, you could pronounce it Ai-leet, for the AI, and it would sound like a pronunciation of Elite ;)

I've always called it 'oo-leet', but its funny this is being discussed as my fiancé has asked me before how to pronounce Oolite!
