Celestia Crossover.

Celestia is a great piece of software, but you can't really fly on it. Have you ever considered making Oolite ships available for Celestia? Is it possible / doable?
Edit: Or maybe someone could do an OXP with the planets and moons of the solar system. You could buy on Venus and sell on Jupiter, mine on the Asteroid Belt...

How would importing the ship models solve the problem of not being able to fly (= the fact that Celestia isn't made to make you fly a ship)?

In Celestia you can center the camera on an object and then move towards it. It's like a first-person view. I don't have an education on computing, but it looks very close to a flight. You'd only have to add some ships.
Anyway, in Celestia you can add objects like ships from other Universes.... Star Wars, 2001, Star Trek... Why not Oolite? That would be fun.

And you can't in Oolite?
Star Wars
2001
Star Trek
and I'm sure there are others
P.S. Oh, we've got a
Firefly as well.

Like the
Colonial Viper, for instance.

I know all these OXPs, they are great, but I do want to fly to Mars on an Asp.

Better play Frontier then, lol you could do that in that game, I think? Its been years since I played though, could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Frontier had an Asp in it. It defintely had the Cobra Mark III.
But if people can make ships for Celestia then there's no reason why someone couldn't make a ship from Elite/Oolite for Celestia. Don't play it myself, too busy playing Oolite/GTA San Andreas Multiplayer/Whole Assassins Creed Francise lol!

My thoughts exactly. If you can't or don't want to make Celestia a flyer you can send the ships as objects, as part of the scene of Celestia. I'd do it myself if I knew how.

I did a quick google search but could not find much. If they have any forums I'm sure if they are as friendly as they are here (probably not
) then maybe someone there can help you or point you to a tutorial.

It is supposed to be
http://www.shatters.net/celestia but that's not responding. Their forum should be at
http://www.shatters.net/forum/
Their old defunct site is
http://www.openuniverse.org which does work.
The software refers to
http://celestia.sf.net which merely redirects to a non-functional
http://celestia.sourceforge.net
Searching on SourceForge gives
http://sourceforge.net/projects/celesti ... =directory which in turn gives a 500 error.

Yeah, I had to download again Celestia today and I had the same problem. I'll tell you when it's online again. Meanwhile, you can see the addons here:

Although downloads do work for Ubuntu users from the Ubuntu Software Centre.

Celestia is back.

If you don't do it, I'll have to print and cut an aft view of an Asp and tape it to the screen while I run Celestia.

Or use an Origami cutout model printed with your favourite retexture.

Seems pretty straightforward (at least for having the ships appear in Celestia, don't know about flying):
there's an utility with which you can convert .obj models to Celestia's preferred cmod format.
