going to miss him... like all the others who have gone before, the world of Sci Fi is becoming rather barren with them gone.
RIP Mr. bradbury

Indeed, a sad loss. I don't think he saw himself as a sci-fi writer, but many of us thought of him as one of the greats!

I volunteer to memorise The Illustrated Man.

I was just going to post this on the SSC. A sad day indeed.
My thoughts are with his family.

The stories in
The Illustrated Man were the first proper SF I read: I must have been pretty young, about 8 or 9 maybe, because I got it through a school book club and I can remember being inordinately impressed by the fact that the author's name
(it was this Panther edition) was so much bigger than the book title!
"The Veldt" creeped me out (in a good way), but it was "Kaleidoscope" – the story that inspired much of the film
Dark Star, especially its ending – that really sunk its hooks in me, and I've never forgotten it. He was one of the true stylists of modern writing, one of the genuine greats. A real and palpable loss.

Ouch. Sad to see him go.
...This is a rather unfortunate reminder that I still haven't actually read the book. I've seen the movie, but I was so young I barely remember any of it.

A great loss to the literary world. (And his fans)

Indeed, very sad news.
I met Harry Harrison once at a Sci-Fi convention. He was very approachable and had plenty of time for his fans. I asked him to sign my copy of Stainless Steel Rat which he did gladly, then when he noticed I had all the other 'Rat' novels in my bag, insisted on signing all of them!
R.I.P.
There is a nice piece
here on the BBC website.

I notice that they've named Curiosity's touchdown site on Mars as Bradbury Landing - sweet!
